The conversion factor is approximately 2-6 times whatever the stated interval is.
Loose example of Valve Time from the Steam August 26 update news:

I have a dota2 beta key and I can honestly say that HoN > dota2.... the interface is sooo bad and unit response time is :/ luckily its still in beta and they have tons of time to fix everything thats wrong with the game... i had such high expectations too

What settings are you running? 840 x 480 or whatever? playing on US West? That will reduce response time. UI is good... it's basically the same as HON

US West you'll have a ping between 173ms-230ms stable. It's a real bad disadvantage.

Bored Aussie is >500ms ping? The fuck? I thought it was meant to be Australian, it should be <100ms lol. Good thing I don't play on there.

I'll explain to you what ping actually is, so you don't get confused with download speeds & such as they don't actually affect how low your ping can go.

US west connects to Australia better than South-East Asia and Europe because in terms of the internet cabling around the world, it's the closest for some dumb reason. The internet (simplistically) also travels at the speed of light - you can't go faster than that, so the fastest we can get here is ~173ms ping to US WEST. South-East Asia is connected to us from US -> Australia. So we have to go to the US West and then back out to SEA, for some reason. Apparently there's a direct cable to Singapore but for another reason in games I never go through it lololol. Same deal with China, out to America and then back to Asia.

oh great, so now it's not even something i said, it's something someone said i said! That's just amazing! and that's not even the game itself, it's the problem with the matchmaking system, which i feel can be improved, which is separate from the game. What's the point of a beta if people don't have criticisms? Get over yourself mate.
