When do you reckon is the right time to leave home?

I was talking with my mum yesterday that i heard stories of kids at 18 and 19 leaving home, it just seems like other parents(probably ethnic groups) are keen to keep their childrens in the house till they are married or so. My mum wouldn't mind if i would stay here till i die lol, I told her that i might leave home till I'm 24 or 25 years old saving up to 50,000 dollars or more, and then I can go find a apartment and rent one and start my own life and start building up and investing money by working as a engineer.

so when do you guys reckon would be the best time to leave home?
after highschool?
after uni?
Once you get a professional job? e.g. commerce, law, teaching, science, med, engineering...
till you get married?

Everyone's different. I am hoping to move out next month for uni - but I have older brothers who are 21 and still at home.

All of my siblings have moved straight after highschool as they've gone into university. I'm currently looking for places to rent myself :)

I'd get killed if I left before I got married, unless I had a good reason like a job in the city. Fuck moving, I've always wanted more independence, but I dont want to cook or do the laundry.

My brother's 27, he built his own house and lived there for a while, then moved back home and is now renting his house out. Why? It's 3 bedrooms, he was living there by himself, and now the rent is paying his mortgage. He pays my parents and covers some bills, but hey *shrug*  Financially, it's just logical.

As for me, I'll probably stay at home for uni seeing as if I go to Monash, it's 15/20 minutes away, and if I go to Melbourne, I can carpool with my Dad who works at the RMH which is practically next door. I don't see the point in moving out, as I can't afford for it, so my parents would have to pay.

I think it depends on circumstances.

After marriage. Until then, I'm staying at home.
I don't mind, I actually love my parents, even
though I sometimes disagree with them.

I wouldn't have any first hand information but is money that big of an issue? I know a lot of people who moved out and are living on youth allowance/rent assistance and other part time jobs.

edit: referring to funkyducky as well, what do you think about this?

Ready for freedom, I guess ;).

Lucky, your near your dads workplace :).

All of my siblings have moved straight after highschool as they've gone into university. I'm currently looking for places to rent myself :)
I heard the housing market buying/renting home market are going to be really expensive in the near distant future. Hmmm, do you have a good part/casual time Job to pay off the bills how so :P? did you save up before?

You can always hire a maid or a misuse lol :P.

Currently I get youth allowance and once I move out that should increase to the 'living away from home rate' which is a lot more and I'll be receiving rent assistance as well. In addition to this, I have a job and quite a bit of money saved up especially for when I move out.

My brother who began university in 2011 has been renting a share house at $160 a week and with spending money on groceries and no job, he has managed to live quite comfortably and still save quite a bit for himself so in theory I should be fine as long as I spend wise and don't waste all my money now that I don't have my parents to second guess me :P

My mum wants to kick my older brother out of the house after getting his rather average ATAR (or ENTER back in his day)
on the other hand she wants me to stay here until I get my degree... just because I beat my cousin in VCE

Woah, thats tough on your big bro, I hope everything goes will with your bro and mum.

That seems like a great option staying uni till you get a degree. I heard the Job Hunting in a professional world (e.g. commerce, business,...) will take a while.

LMAO! Sames, exactly the same in my case. My parents control WHEN i move out, but hopefully if I get a good ATAR i can live at the university:) 8)

Probably when I get a job, as if I go to Monash it's like a 20 minute drive from home so not much point moving out.

That said, hopefully the longest I live at home is till I'm like 25 because, despite having to cook/clean/wash, I think moving out is overall a lot better and I'd be happier with my own place.
