Hey guys, I got rejected from uni-math at Monash because I have not done methods earlier. Now I am 'stuck' with uni-chem- a subject very different to maths and very different to what I have chosen. I'm  get A+'s in maths but only A's at chemistry (in vce), please tell me what am I going to expect in uni-chem and I also want a difficulty comparison of (uni chem VS (uni-math) and (yr 12 chem)).

If I was in your position, I'd take another Year 12 subject like Further Maths unless you're dedicated to Chemistry, because you'll end up spending a lot of time on what essentially will only be a 10% increment, and as far as I know, there's no more 5.5's so it'll be a max of 5.0 increment

It's really not that hard to do reasonably well in, however as paulsterio has said, the new ATAR increments may sway your decision...

I got a 77 first semester and 74 second semester with not a lot of work - nowhere near as much as I would for a normal VCE subject, however I think this would only yield me a 4.0 in the new system if I'm not mistaken? When you compare that to further, it may be easier to do well in, although I still reckon unichem was pretty good and gives you a good grasp of university life :)

UMAT: 69 | 56 | 82 | = [69 / 98th Percentile]

The only year 12 subject I can take is basically religion and society, I did text and traditions last year and slacked big time because I was on the assumption that I will get uni-math (i also hated text and traditions, dunno about religion and society) and that will be my 6th subject in a sense. I'm very confused right now, please help me out...

Take into account travel as well....but I'd say do it if I were you. You won't lose out in a sense, as long as you're confident that you can have a strong top 4 you may as well take unichem as a slack 6th subject, it's not overly hard and definitely manageable. AS a point of interest, we had VCE chem scores of ~30-35 that were getting in the 60s and 70s for unichem...

Hmm, I think that would yield you a 4.0 in the new system, which isn't great, but it's alright I guess, in comparison to taking another VCE subject, I'm not sure though, considering VCE_2012 can only do Religion and nothing else.

could think of uni chem as tutoring for VCE-chem or as something to give you that extra "boost", that's how I treated uni Japanese instead of going "oshit im doing 6 subjects in one go :("

*regrets not doing a 3/4 in year 11*
2011 : English | Accounting | MM CAS | Further | Japanese | MUEP Japanese
2012 : BA(Japanese&Chinese)/BComm @ Monash Clayton
