Fark my plans to do B.Science in 2013 might have just been put in doubt... I felt 85.05 was an acheivable goal but now it's in the 90s... Here's hoping it drops for 2013 intake!  :-\

chin up buddy, it's far from over. you still have one full year to do your best and 90 is very achievable.

also it's only this year where it has sky rocketed up so there's a very good chance that it drop back to 85~

You don't know that it is 'only this year', maybe the Melbourne Model is kicking in and it gets higher and higher D:
Fact is, study hard and you should hit 90+ Microshift!
Actually, I just had a sudden thought, my school is on their list of "under represented schools" and I'm fairly certain I get youth allowance (I don't actually get it, it goes into an account that my mum takes care of), does that mean 78 would have been the requirement for me this year (financially disadvantaged)?

I HATE MY LIFE.

After all the predictions that scores would drop this year.... noooo, Biomedicine shoots through the roof. God damn it, guys.

Email the university and complain.

Show them the article below and the attached screen shot and then proceed to ask them why they insist on lying...

You can do biomedicine at Monash or science at Melbourne; both are suitable pathways to professional medical degrees.

@ Microshift.  I think you should definitely consider repeating English this year or taking either Lit/EngLang instead because it will really help your ATAR if you can get a good English score.  :)

Pain in the ass I know...but if you put in the effort you will reap the rewards!

I would have loved to do English Language if my school offered it, I was so pissed off when I found out they didn't.. it looked so good! But yeah I've thought it over and decided that I'm not going to repeat English, doing it once was bad enough. :P Rather than force myself through a subject that I thoroughly dislike I've decided I'm just going to put in extra effort in my remaining (enjoyable) subjects.
Given that I would only need an ATAR of 78 for the course I really want (obviously getting in on my own merit would be nice though) and since my school is eligible for RMIT SNAP too (CompSci @ RMIT being my next preference) I would only need an SS of 25 in Methods to get in there, so I feel the pain of going through English again is not worth it.

Take it from me; someone who's done English twice.

Doing it the second time around, I improved a fair bit and I reckon that made the difference of me being able to do what I wanted to this year.

I'd like to point out, I hate English with a passion. I hated it the first time. I hated it the second time. But doing it twice was worth it.

Given that I would only need an ATAR of 78

That was the case this year for people who were eligible for Access Melbourne. I wouldn't count on it being the same in coming years (things could change).

since my school is eligible for RMIT SNAP too (CompSci @ RMIT being my next preference) I would only need an SS of 25 in Methods to get in there, so I feel the pain of going through English again is not worth it.

Being given a provisional SNAP placement isn't a certainty.

VCE isn't meant to be a cake walk. It's not meant to be easy. Put in the hard yards now and you won't regret it later.

MicroShift: Just a thought, I saw you got a 44 in further maths. Now you may say that, that means nothing, but getting above 40 (in year 11 aswell) is pushing you in the right direction. Just study hard this year and you should get above 90.

The main problem is probably his english, since it has to be in his top 4.

Not to sound arrogant and dismissive of advice, but I spent a good week leading up to results release and a short while after thinking this over and going through scenarios in my head. Using relatively conservative estimates I came up with the following:
English: 29 > 26.8
Specialist Maths: 35 > 47
Maths Methods: 40 > 44
Physics: 30 > 32
Further Maths: 44 > 4.28
Biology: 31 > 3.12
ATAR: 89.05

And again, that's being conservative, I feel I could potentially get a bit higher in Physics (perhaps Accounting, which isn't shown, but I don't know since I've never been exposed to it before (never did 1+2)) and maybe even Specialist/Methods if I really push myself. And if I do well if the CompSci extensions tudy @ RMIT that might push my aggregate up a point of two (by replacing Biology), further increasing my ATAR.

Sorry if that came out as arrogant at all, I just figured it would be better to push myself in subjects I really enjoy (Methods/Spesh) than force myself begrudgingly through another year of English.
Though as I mentioned earlier I really would have loved to do English Language, it's a real pity my school doesn't run it. :(
