also $2k man bag
http://www.louisvuitton.com/front/#/eng_US/Collections/Men/Mens-Bags/products/Roman-MM-TAIGA-M32623

Waste of money.

Not if you can get it for $10 :D

Then it's not Louis Vuitton. It's like Louise Vuttoon.

Also it's not a waste of money, if you like bags. Waste is subjective.

Yeah, I'll be enrolling in my course soon so what is it like in first year? I hear that it's intense but ironically people waste time on facebook msn or whatever. I couldn't picture myself wasting time on that sort of crap.

The first couple of weeks will be amazing, then everything just goes downhill afterwards. You'll start complaining about travelling, sleep in lectures or not show up at all and start cramming for exams like everyone else.

Also it's not a waste of money, if you like bags. Waste is subjective.

Assume that it costs $2,000. Compare that to what you could spend on a decent bag ($200-300) and then minus it from the total you could have spent. We have $1,700-1,800 that could have been spent on rent, food, clothes, social gatherings and what not. It is not an essential item; it would be frivolous spending what nobody will bat an eyelid at and will perform the same function with relatively the same quality.

For most uni students, I think it would be considered a waste by many. Ad populum aside.

I do not get how people can use iPads in LECTURES. I struggle sometimes using my macbook and I type insanely fast.... using a tablet seems incredibly inconvenient/slow.

those people don't consider it a waste. Also remember girls dress for other girls more than for boys. Many will notice the bag.

I think the majority would though. Yeah, that is true about girls dressing for other girls lol I, personally, would not notice it.

Just to make it clear I don't actually own a $2000 LV Men's Designer Bag and neither did I buy the fake one for $10 I saw in Vietnam (which was so obviously fake with its crappy material and the label was stuck on badly).

Though I do own a designer bag...

Monash Satchel isn't bad, uni isn't really the fashion police. Some people like to dress nicely everyday but I'm reppin shorts, singlet, and thongs from day 1.

may be a silly question.. but what are the purposes of macbook/ipad in uni?
do students use technology purely to replace traditional pen and paper to write notes?
and i understand that textbooks aren't compulsory so do people just use digital files as references or something during lectures?
please elaborate.

i'm technologically inept but i have the chance to buy an ipad (late christmas/study score congratulatory present) for uni, is this recommended?

oh. and sorry for threadjacking, but there's a lot of uni people on this thread now.

I think most people just use them to type up notes from lectes/check facebook/play angry birds in lectures. They don't do all that much regular computers can't do or that you really need to do. On the very odd occasion its been nice to be able to grab someones laptop to look up something in a lab but besides that they're not as useful as you might think. Most of the time i've just spent watching the guy in front of me fail in angry birds during a lecture.

I guess if you wanted to type up an assignment or something during your break but there are plenty of computers around Monash. (Bit hard to find one during peak times but during most times its ok).

Great quote by the way, had it up on my wall for awhile.

Edit: Oh, if you have the opportunity to get one anyway, why not? Unless you can change it over for something you want/need more.

i was originally thinking of declining the offer because i've heard that an ipad doesn't make a huge impact on studying/convenience in lectures and also i prefer the traditional way of taking notes. i shall reconsider though, because i like studying in the library and it would be useful to have a digital copy of a textbook without having to lug a huge laptop around, and convenient internet access of course. thanks for your feedback.

@taiga, i thought 'taiga' was russian for 'forest'.
