Irregular Offer Question
« on: January 17, 2012, 12:01:19 am »
Hey guys, one of my friends just got into her first preference but had a change of heart over the holidays and now wants to do her second preference.

If she does an irregular offer, does that mean she CANNOT ACCEPT her first offer? As in if she applies to do her second preference, is she not allowed to accept her first offer first?

She is worried that her irregular offer will not be accepted and she would be left with no uni at all =(

Any advice or help would be much appreciated!!

Congratulations to all those who got into their first pref! =)

When the Irregular Offer is accepted, then she will forfeit all other preferences.  So she'll be giving up her list of preferences and won't be able to make another Irregular Offer.

Thanks Gloamglozer! Just another thing so I can ease her worries..

So let's say she ACCEPTED her FIRST ROUND OFFER, would she still be eligible to make an IRREGULAR OFFER to her SECOND PREFERENCE?

She is worried that one of the criteria to making an irregular offer is that you are not allowed to accept your first round offer when you apply for an irregular offer. Basically meaning she is sc*ewed if she gets rejected for the irregular offer!

Before she makes an Irregular Offer, there are some steps she should do and some questions she should ask as explained in the FAQ.

Once she does that and she is certain to receive an offer, then she can decline her first round offer.

Thanks so much gloam ;)

So that would indicate that she gets to ACCEPT her first offer first and still make her irregular offer application? Meaning that she would still have a place (in her first pref) if she is unsuccessful with her irregular offer?

Sorry if I sound slow, just want to make sure I dont give her wrong information or false hope! =)

Yes, I believe so.  But if she is absolutely sure (ie. 100%) then I would recommend she do so as soon as possible.

If she's already got her first preference then she won't getting any surprises in subsequent rounds so her only choice is either current offer or irregular offer.

Quick question guys, I got offered my second preference (science at UoM) and I'm really hoping I get my first preference which is Commerce but since that is unlikely I'm considering making an irregular offer. If I make an irregular am I still eligible for my first preference (Commerce)?

Hopefully that made sense...

If your Irregular Offer is approved, then you will not be eligible for your first preference.

But UoM gives out very few second round offers and only SEAS applicants are eligible for second round offers.

So is the '93' 2012 minimum atar posted here: http://www.futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/admissions/entry-requirements/undergraduate-domestic

for SEAS applicants only?

The minimum ATAR is really for international students because if they get above the minimum, then they're pretty much in.

SEAS applicants can get below the minimum ATAR and still receive an offer depending on their circumstances.

The minimum ATAR can be thought of as a buffer for all normal applicants.
