The whole 'flexibility' thing that UoM was preaching to us seems to be non-existent just looking at this study plan.

I was in the understanding that one would be able to select whatever subjects he/she pleases, but the study plan only allows me to select 7 'Level 1' science subjects. I was intending on selecting 9 'Level 1' science subjects to allow me that flexibility for post-grad degree options (don't ask me how, ceebs explaining).

And another question, is this study plan just exactly that, a 'plan' and nothing else?

I'm kinda pissed since it was the whole 'flexibility' idea that led me to choosing Melbourne..

As in: Is this plan final? Like, are these the subjects we will actually be doing this year?

You can actually do 10 level 1 subjects.

Additional requirements:

No more than 125 points at Level 1 may be included in the BSc

Going by my study plan, you can put 6 under "Science Level 1", 2 under "Science Level 1-3" and 2 under "Breadth & Science Level 2-3 Subjects".

Yes, jasrulz is correct, you can select 10. You should be able to find them in the slots available.

No it's not because you can drop out of the subject at any time until the census date. The census date for each subject is usually about 2 weeks after the commencement of the subject, or 1 week for summer subjects.

How were you able to put 'Level 1' subjects under the category of "Breadth & Science Level 2-3 Subjects"?

Cos I'm trying to place Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra (both are 'Level 1' subjects) underneath "Breadth & Science Level 2-3 Subjects" but it keeps coming up with: "Sorry, but there are no matching structures for the specified criteria."

And btw, I can only put 5 Level 1's under "Science Level 1"! Are you sure you can put 6 in yours?

Yes because pretty much everyone does 6 science and 2 breadth in first year. I did 7 science and 2 breadth. Also, shouldn't there be a breadth level 1 subject slot? And maybe science level 1-2 even? Not sure but 5 is definitely not right.

edit: oh I read your post wrong. Yeah it should be 5 in science level 1, and then I have a further 3 in science 1-3.

edit 2: altho this may be due to the recent slight rule change for science degrees, but overall you should still be able to do 8 science subjects I'm pretty sure.

From the site:

" 25 points (either science subjects or breadth subjects) at Level 1, 2 or 3 "

IT'S NOT LETTING ME SELECT SCIENCE SUBJECTS IN THE BREADTH SECTION! ARGH!

So the problem is the last category: "Science and Breadth"

This category doesn't allow me to choose Level 1 Science subjects for some odd and stupid reason.
It only lets you choose Level 2 and 3 subjects.

Gah.

So if you do a blank search, there are no science options? If that really is the problem then you'll have to contact the uni. Dw, it'll be fixed in the end.

Omg..

Nah, don't worry, I'm an idiot. I didn't read the handbook, the whole points system thingo changed. You can no longer substitute 2 breadth subjects for science subjects, they've tightened down on that.

It's now less 'flexible' for me.

Stupid University of Melbourne (The).

Successful completion of 300 points comprising:

225 points of science subjects including:
At least 62.5 points at Level 1
At least 62.5 points at Level 2
At least 75 points at Level 3 (including 50 points of a prescribed science major at Level 3)

50 points of breadth subjects including at least 12.5 points at Level 2 or Level 3

25 points (either science subjects or breadth subjects) at Level 1, 2 or 3

Anyone else see what's wrong with this?

They're missing 25 points.. Hmmm..

No theyre not, 225 + 50 + 25 = 300.

Also, no they did not 'tighten it'. In the quote, you can see it says 50 points of breadth, and then 25 points of EITHER science or breadth. In the past it was 75 points of breadth, no question. So you can substitute 2 subjects for science instead of breadth.

edit: and if youre talking about missing 25 points from the 225 science, then that is because it says 'at least...'.
