Accounting/Finance major: Subjects

Is anyone going to do an acc/finance major in commerce? I am interested in it at the moment and there is a sample accounting/finance subject plan on the "accounting major" page.. and it says at the bottom of the page that all subjects marked with an * on it is needed or accreditation.
First of all (excuse my ignorance), but what exactly is accreditation? Does it require doing a graduate degree or something? Lets say I wanted to be an accountant, do I need accreditation to become one?
And secondly, so many of the subjects are marked with an asterisk I hardly get to choose anything until 3rd year! I don't even get to choose breadth subjects? D:

Accreditation means that once you graduate, you are eligible to join the professional governing body of your studies.
For accounting, once you graduate, you become a member of the accounting professional body in Australia. You choose between CA or CPA. But keep in mind that being a member of either CPA or CA requires you to do extra studies after you finish the commerce degree.

For finance majors, I think they become members of FINSIA once they graduate. I'm unsure how finance works though.

Not too sure though, since I'm doing a double degree @ Monash. It looks right to me, but just ask your Melb. advisor at AAD.

Yeah if you wanna become an accountant, there is little flexibility for your study plan, and it'll be very identical to that sample one.
We lose a semester of breadth each year for the law subjects too D:

To major in both and get as much accreditation as possible (so saving you doing more subjects and exams by yourself that you need to) yes, apart from the two blue non-asterisked 'core program elective'-pick any two other commerce subjects- and the two non-asterisked orange breath subjects-pick any two non-commerce subects.

you have to do the sequence of PBL/corp law/tax law as breath as they're compulsory for CA accreditiation (which is very important if you want to go into the commercial world as an accountant), so you end up with only three breath subs you have freedom with

With the other 2 orange breadth subjects, can I do one breadth (so totalling 4 breath subjects), and then picking a commerce subject to replace the other breadth?
So basically, I end up with 4 breadths (the min requirement?) and 3 commerce electives?
