There's a thread in the English section :)
Regarding q3, I think that though many are keen, not everyone knows about the work submission thread and the stickied threads on the English board. Check it out guys!

Did you post in it?
Hmm. What if there was a running thread like the maths threads where people poste essays and someone gave them feedback, so it was prevalent in the 'unread posts' bit?

Here's the thread I was talking about (it wasn't regarding feedback, more a discussion of assigned texts: Class of 2013: What English texts and Contexts are you studying?).
That's a great idea regarding an ongoing thread (similar to TT's maths one), because people would be less shy about posting small excerpts of pieces. I guess now, a few people are a bit hesitant about creating an entire thread for maybe a paragraph of work (or even more) - plus the presence of notifications is a good thing!

I'll let you do the honours of starting and naming the thread!

I and many others are happy to mark any English essay, but trust me marking small excerpts (besides maybe intros) is shit, because you can only judge the language not the content as when you give critics the posting person will be like "Thats what's happening in the next paragraph".

Please post as many of your essays as possible, but please finish them.

Half-essays aren't good practice anyways. (Besides maybe intros)

Seconded. Marking excerpts does nothing because when I am marking I want to see if you have followed through with your points in your intro, and backed them up accordingly.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It might still be useful for students to have their essay plans checked, or have the structure of a paragraph checked. But I agree - nothing beats sitting down and finishing an essay in its entirety!

On the other hand, if you are finding introductions/conclusions particularly difficult to form into words, I would suggest in doing a HEAP of practise intros and conclusions from different prompts. I always was brainstuck (i don't care if its not a word) with the first few sentences on intros and a few days before the exams I sat down and did 10+ intros (with a timed condition of 5 mins) and got it checked. In the exam, the words just rolled off my pen because I was accustomed to it.

I just watched On the Waterfront since I still don't quite feel well enough to read or do any homework yet. It's actually a fairly straightforward film - I was able to get it from the first viewing (which is rare for me) but hopefully with a few more I'll be able to delve deeper into the content. :)

I watched the Princess Diaries 2 with my brother because I felt a little cheesy (my poor, poor brother haha...forced him into it!) and Snow White and the Huntsman.  :D

Lol no way!! Only if you want to make it like that Stick. Your life is what you choose to make it, and in my opinion, you have constructed yourself a very ambitious life -- which is always good  :) You always have stuff to do (albeit academically related I think - correct me if I'm wrong  :P ) and it's great to be busy all the time.

And dude, stop putting yourself down all the time. There is a difference between modesty and low self-esteem. It seems as though you have trouble with the latter?

You're a great guy Stick. It's time you start seeing that  ;)

Hmm. No you don't. Working hard in year 12 is important. I don't know anyone who worked hard in year 12 and wasn't happy with their results.

"Let go a little" -- during the holidays yeah I guess. But while school is going on, you've defs got to put in the hard yards.

And exactly how much work have you been doing (you seem a bit, well, deflated or stressed - totally hazarding a guess here, I'm no psychoanalyst  :P)?

Nah, I just had wisdom teeth surgery, so I have been FORCED to take a break. All I was up to today was watching On the Waterfront for English and nothing else. I like to keep at least a little bit busy during the holidays or else I get destructive. :P I'm hoping by Monday I'll feel well enough to do something.

Haha at least you've got wisdom teeth (or at least you did lol, until they were removed - ouch!). I'm still waiting for mine to pop out.  :P

Mine didn't pop out. They were holding back the molars next to them which should've come out when I was 12. So not only did the wisdom teeth have to come out, the gums had to be cut to encourage each molar to come out.

I'm sitting in bed right now on my iPad with two ice packs on my face. ^_^

Without sounding mean I genuinely agree. Make sure to have more fun next year than you spend time studying (: Try and make the two overlap.
