Sigh... I was looking into what VSL really entailed and I wasn't very impressed by it. Furthermore, my school wasn't going to even give me extra study periods to do it! It is with deep regret that I will have to drop Italian, but I do believe it happened for a reason. Let's see where the journey takes me. :/

For anyone else reading this, I'd like to give a different opinion on the VSL. My teacher is excellent, she is available for contact at any hour, she will mark any work I send her and she really knows what she's talking about. I get free periods from my school. It is a little bit of an inconvenience to not be able to see your teacher around school, but it's not a big disadvantage, especially when they're so contactable.
Im not attacking your opinion Stick, I just want to let anyone else considering the VSL to know that you can make it possible, so have a look for yourself and decide.

Out of interest, if you were doing Italian through VSL next year, what was your school proposing you do in what would have been the "Italian class" timeslot with then? (I would have assumed they would just give you your extra study periods in that timeslot - in addition to your regular free study periods)

Wise choice Stick. I could never stand primary school religious classes so I was happy to go to a school that didn't offer RE classes >.>
Nevertheless, good luck with your Biology studies ^^

It's complicated, because Italian isn't the only subject at my school being dropped mid-way through VCE. For non-LOTE subjects, where the minimum number of students required for a class at my school is 6, the minimum number is 14 and French, Geography, Indonesian, Italian, Literature and National Politics all fell below the cutoff. I think they were going to bunch us all up together (with the students who learn subjects outside of school like Chinese or Greek) for RE instead of getting a study period to learn via correspondence. +_+

I feel particularly sorry for the Literature students, because they were just below the cutoff. It's a stupid system because in the end a fair amount of students are being disadvantaged by it all. I'm going to make a final plea to the LOTE co-ordinator at my school before the end of the week, but I don't see it doing much. :/

In the meantime, we have 4 full classes for Business Management. -.-

That's crap! if we do distance studying at my school we get the same time-block as a 3/4 study, obviously replaced with study periods.
I'm on a reduced workload this year so I have a subjects worth of study periods as well.

In year 6 we had a choice between RE and gardening/picking up rubbish. I went with the latter :P
