^ If I did that at my school, I wouldn't be allowed to continue with my subjects next year. Take Chemderp's advice with a grain of salt if your school reviews your results.

Hahah, take your 1/2s seriously, like it doesn't really matter if you don't do as well as you want, but make sure you set a good foundation for yourself for next year, like, make sure you know what subjects are important (the ones you want to do REALLY well in and the ones you know you'll struggle in) and make sure you pay attention to them, like feel free to dick around in Year 11, but make sure it's not at the expense of Year 12 next year.

Hmmm.... there is much to consider.

Quote
1&2s have very little consequence on their 3&4 equivalents

I would question this. I mean sure- this is true in some circumstances, but not all.
For instance, there's no way I can drop the ball with German; it's impossible to cram a language.  And I can't fail year 11 Further Maths. (as hard as that sounds to do) I know someone who is having a lot of trouble with her VTAC application because she got an N in Unit 2. And with music, there's the added impetus of not wanting to make a complete fool of yourself in front of everybody, haha. :D :D
The only subjects I really don't have to worry about are English and Art.
Also, there's parent pressure: my Mum has been on my back with my 1/2s. She's like "you can't just do your lit all of the time!"

Do not say that! Focus on English! it helps with everything.

I know what you mean, but I know some people who are terrible at English but decent at Literature. It's weird, but it happens!

I'm not saying not to take them seriously, but don't drive yourself insane worrying about them to the point where you're sacrificing time spent on your 3/4 and such. I had like two extra-curricular activities on every day after school in year 11 so I barely had enough time to even do Lit (my 3/4). That being said, I did waste a lot of time in class :P Year 11 was probably the most fun year of my schooling.

But yeah, for some subjects it's more important than others, and if your school is going to review your results, be wary. Discretion is important, but I know several people who burnt themselves out in Year 11 and then just slacked off this year. Unless you've already done everything you can for your 3/4 I wouldn't study anything else until after it was finished.

What extracurricular activities did you do Chemderp, just out of random curiosity? Also, to what extend did lit help your English this year? :P

Music, sports, bunch of youth groups, I was on the radio, public speaking and a few of other things :P

And yeah I've done no study for English this year (wrote one practice essay for my first SAC but winged everything else) and I ended up with 196/200 on SACs (that sounds really arrogant but it's completely true. Although I don't endorse slacking - I just sacrificed study time for English and put it into chemistry instead). I'd put that down utterly to how far Lit advanced my writing/analytical skills. Especially with Language Analysis you'll find yourself automatically way ahead of everyone else because of your intrinsic ability to pick up on things. It's helped with Media and Politics also, as well as speech writing and creative writing and just about everything which involves thinking.

That being said I wish I was doing Lit this year because I'd be better poised to actually get a good score ):

Did you ever consider repeating it at any point? ( Although, no matter what happens, I really, really don't want to do the whole lit course again...)
Wow sounds you have an interesting life :P You were on the radio? Whatever for?

No way, I could never go through it again and having 6 subjects would be a nightmare! Maybe if the text list was the same and I didn't have to go to class ie. only do SACs and the exam :P

I worked/still work for a radio station called SYN. Check 'em out, it's pretty sweet.
