I'm guessing your parents are doing that because it's part of allied health? If I'm doing something in the health sciences, my parents are telling me to stick with a mainstream professions (where the pay is better etc etc..)

No, my parents just think that IT and Engineering are superior careers since my dad works in the profession. :P

Engineering is superior. :) More specifically, Aerospace Engineering. Couple that with a commerce double, and you have yourself a power punch of a qualification. :P

Yeah I've heard the Pharmaceutical career is in a bit of a dire strait at the moment. While you shouldn't be deterred if that's what you really want to do, you should inform yourself on what you'll be getting yourself into.

Nahh it's not really what I want to do. Just another option (VTAC requires 3 from memory I think). By the way Stick, dunno if you know, but posing this to anyone in general ~ do the Universities know whether you've listed down your options in a particular order (say if you put commerce as your first option, and biomed at Melbourne as your 3rd option - would the order in which you've listed your choices influence whether you get an offer for the course or not...are you as likely to get your 3rd choice as your 1st choice?)

Haha, I've gotta crack on with my other subjects, especially English :)

Mmm - English is tough  :-\

LOL - parental bias at its utmost  ;)

The only thing that worries my parents about me pursuing a field in the health sciences is the number of years I'll be living under their roof  :P

It is very tough isn't it. Our final score really gets adversely affected (good and bad) if our English scores are way off our other scores. Definitely a top priority, but it's often a subject people feel they can leave till the last minute. All down to that "there's no right and wrong" mentality which is only partially true. :)

Nope, unis don't know what preference number you've given a course. You can actually get away with putting just 1 course down on VTAC (it gives you a message saying something like that they strongly recommend to put more than 1 down, but you can continue anyway), but yeah I would have a number of courses listed just to be safe.

Yeah. I still remember when I was in junior school (yrs 7-9, and even year 10) people didn't really know how to study for the English exam. I mean, like no one really thought to analyse the texts and stuff.
But I guess now we sort of know how to prepare for it. In a way this is bad, because it increases the competency of fellow students, but then you get the feeling that 'yeah, I can study for it', so you put in the hard yards.  :)

It's been quiet on here for a while now...a bit strange?  ???

Anyway, do you guys have any idea what you want to do when you finish year 12? I was looking at something in the health sciences... :)

I don't want to be cliched but I want to do law. :P
In the very near future, however, I want to:
- own a school
- own a franchise, probably fast food
- ditch that and own a restaurant
- have a clothing store
- have a popular online website/store
- have a place for young people/mothers who needs homes and an education
- beat Vodafone by building an empire phone company that will buy it (if it's still available), sell it and ruin its otherwise already damaged reputation
- have my very own law firm
- own a talent agency
- learn directing and be a director whose films the world will want to watch
- write a best selling novel
- have a publishing company named after me

Oh, to be ambitious. Haha.

Gah, I've been trying to work out what to do in the future for so long and haven't come any closer to figuring ot out :(
At uni, I'm looking at a degree in science or engineering (just general, because I don't know what to specialize in), and maybe doubling it with arts..
I don't know!! So many decisions!

I haven't talked to you in ages! :)

I think you'll start to figure it out slowly this year, well speaking from my cousins, they only knew they wanted to do Physio and Med, mid year! And yes, do engineering at Monash.. Aero Engineering.
