I like the un-concreteness of languages. You have much more choice in writing/responding/saying what you want to discuss in orals and moving the conversation forward, rather than just answer a question in chem and move on.

If I could, all my subjects would be languages rather than maths/science :(

I suppose so  :)

I'm just a bit nervous because I'm not awesome at expressing myself when it comes to German - I think I lack a certain flair to (as you said) discussing topics in orals and writing freely in the written component of the exam. I guess I'm too preoccupied with making grammatical errors and so on...

Haha ~ we have a linguist here on AN!  :D

=.=  I wouldn't say linguist....rather a person who likes languages (and the scaling <3)

I think the most important part, esp. with European languages is that you really feel and mean what you say. e.g. in my french oral I went on for about 6 out of 7 mins (general convo) on how I would like to be an oncologist etc. Also, I don't think languages such as french/german etc. care that much out vocab/grammar (compared to chinese).

Make sure you have the basics right and you should be fine :)

Hang on... so they didn't ask you questions in between the little spiel to side-track you, or throw you off course? Or were the questions they asked in between related to you being an oncologist?

^^nah: that's the main difference between asian and european language orals. In Chinese it was just questions; answer;linking sentence to next idea;wait for examiners to ask that question (it was very straightforward).

On the other hand, I find that most european language orals just want you to keep going: what you say should be really interesting and this is how they ask questions...their questions pretty much bounce off what you say, so you gotta be prepped for that. In some of my prac orals they tried to throw me off, but I just linked back to oncology because for this area my vocab/grammar etc as well as interesting things were the strongest. (btw it did work 'cos I got full marks for oral)

Nahh - I know you're awesome at languages Fleur (from reading one of the threads I think...) so I don't doubt the fact that you know your stuff & did indeed get full marks for the oral. Congratulations!  :)

But to be honest, I'm starting to just not care about others now. I mean, comparisons wise, I do care about you all :)

I'd be content with my results as long as I do as best as I can. If I work hard and people still do better than me, I'd still be happy with myself as I've put in as much effort as I can. And that's really all that matters. More than results, I think hard work will be rewarded come university and life in general :)

Other people have never bothered me. Even when I was aiming so badly for rank 1 in Further, I was more worried about how I would go compared to how everyone else would go.

I didn't get any study periods in Year 11, so even though the homework load will probably be greater this year, hopefully the extra hour (or more) at school will help alleviate this. Therefore, I'm expecting the load at home to roughly be at the same level as last year. I think the only difference will be the degree to which I now revise for all my subjects; it will be more than what I did last year for my Year 11 subjects, but I know that I probably can't go to the lengths I did for Further.

Same, I had no study periods at all but the homework wasn't as much as I had done in Year 10. I think that was probably because I did everything in the last minute, though.

Random question, has anyone who is doing Spec done all of Chapter 1's chapter review questions? Some of them are crazy.
And in addition, how much holiday homework were you guys given for Spec and Methods?

Wednesdays off every week?!!? (Isn't that just University High?)
My school always finishes early on Wednesdays. I only have 3 VCE subjects though, so the luckiest I can have is a Wednesday with only one period of class. But thinking about how essentially half my timetable = free periods...
At our school we also get free periods even when we have the full 6 subjects (I think that each subject has one study per fortnight). So actually, in a sense, I do have a chance of having Wednesdays 'off' fortnightly - but then we have this rule where we have to attend home group/tutorial regardless so if I have a day with three consecutive frees in the morning, I still have to go to school in the morning! At least we can leave early if we have frees later on.
Stupid nossal lol :(

We have 10 , 45-50 min frees a week, cause I'm doing 4 subjects at school! We finish early on Wednesdays ! But woah, Wednesdays off, that's amazing. Also can't do 3 3/4s in year 12 , we have to do at least 4 !
