We have 10 , 45-50 min frees a week, cause I'm doing 4 subjects at school! We finish early on Wednesdays ! But woah, Wednesdays off, that's amazing. Also can't do 3 3/4s in year 12 , we have to do at least 4 !

That's stiff! What if you wanted to focus on just 3? Oh but I think in some schools, you can only do 1 3/4 in Y11

My school uses Heinemann books for maths, no one likes them :(

I'm thinking of just rebelling and using my Essentials book instead. Some of the chapters look different though which is worrying me. SAC's are obviously all for the same outcomes so hopefully there'll be no confusion come SAC time.

Hope this doesn't bite me!!

Nah. I would feel bad if I neglected one of them. We have the 1 3/4 thing too, only the top students can do 2 3/4s!
We use essentials. The questions are really challenging!

Wednesdays off every week?!!? (Isn't that just University High?)
My school always finishes early on Wednesdays. I only have 3 VCE subjects though, so the luckiest I can have is a Wednesday with only one period of class. But thinking about how essentially half my timetable = free periods...
At our school we also get free periods even when we have the full 6 subjects (I think that each subject has one study per fortnight). So actually, in a sense, I do have a chance of having Wednesdays 'off' fortnightly - but then we have this rule where we have to attend home group/tutorial regardless so if I have a day with three consecutive frees in the morning, I still have to go to school in the morning! At least we can leave early if we have frees later on.
Stupid nossal lol :(

HAHA yeah uni highs my school. did you know somebody who goes there seeing as you know that we have wednesdays off every week?

Now i feel really fortunate to go to my school seeing soooooo many people have to go to schoolo on wednesdays MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well i have 5 subjects so including the whole wednesday off, i only get 4 sessions a week of frees.

btw i never got any "study" sessions in year 11 so I'm sooooo excited about it this year XD

Random question, has anyone who is doing Spec done all of Chapter 1's chapter review questions? Some of them are crazy.
And in addition, how much holiday homework were you guys given for Spec and Methods?

One question is the spesh essentials chapter 1 hard? havent started it and i dont know how much time i should leave for it.

Btw for methods i have to do chapter 4 from essentials book.

Our school is the same, but they do make some exceptions for students who finish 2 3/4s in year 11, get certain scores (to them, that is 40+ for both roughly) and is going to complete a university extension subject. (Which is my case) But you'd have to fit all the requirements to be able to do only 3 VCE subjects! But in a sense, I'm still doing 4 subjects :P Just one of the subjects isn't at my school, haha!

HAHA use Essentials definitely! They are the best textbook, from what I've been told by several people (inclusive of my tutor)

Yeah I do know someone from that school, hence why I know. :P Lucky you though! Make sure you use that time wisely, not that I doubt you will! :)

Essential might have the hardest and most questions, but I don't know if it's the best book. I personally still think that it's explanations are often untidy and not really that clean - i.e. it can be confusing to student at times. I honestly think that Maths Quest is the best textbook in terms of explanations.

I reckon it's best to have a textbook which explains things well such as Maths Quest, a good question bank such as A+ Notes and an exam study guide such as the ATARNotes Series of Study Guides. No point really doing textbook questions which aren't like the exam.

No, textbook questions are good. Before you can do exam style questions, you need to be able to develop the basic skills, which may include lots of drills.

Umm.  The chapter review almost gave me a cardiac arrest. The rest of it was manageable. I'd get onto it, there's a lot there, including ellipses, hyperbolas, and parametric functions, all of which I think most GMA students (including myself) would be somewhat unfamiliar with.

GMA students who did the "Loci" chapter (chapter 17 of Essentials GMA) would be familiar with them :)

Yay, I actually covered that when doing the GMA textbook over the holidays :D

And on another topic, oh my god, you're doing 7 subjects!? :o!
