Why do you want to be a doctor?

It's a simple question,
I am just curious to know the reason why people want to study medicine :P I have heard the cliche'd reasons like "i want to help people", but is there anyone out there who has a non-cliche reason?  :)

I became a doctor for the same four reasons everybody does: chicks, money, power, and chicks.

I'm pretty sure all of us that 'nots aiming to do med', I'm pretty one time  we've always wanted to be an doctor at one time or back in our childhood visiting the doctors numerous times of receiving a balloon and an lollies which made it sounds fun and a fun place to go to, going back the time when I was like 8 or 9 yeah i wanted to be a doctor.

Once, I've started picking up the maths and physics flu @ year 10, my science teacher told me that studying med doesn't really have much maths, and I really liked maths so push med out of the way. Another time, my science has brought an airbus 380 and apollo 13 model to the school and a few of my class mates in year 10 were really amaze, than we ask our science teacher what thought of jobs revolves around rockets and science he than  show us a special small clip about 'Aerospace Engineering' in his laptop because knowing that he knows that we really enjoy physics and maths, we were than really amazed and inspired two of my class mates and I are now keen on Aerospace Engineering, there doing similar subjects like me, but both finished methods and are doing UMEP maths + Spesh, they are also my good friends.

Also note this, prettay much 95% Of VN'ers wana be doctors.

My parents really want me to be a doctor (especially my mum).. I got persuaded by her in Year 11 and my reasons were as same as the one's you mentioned: money, title, power and prestige those were the main ones to be honest, although I like helping people it wasn't the reason why I wanted to do Medicine.

But I know that I don't really want to be a doctor so I'm most likely going to be doing Commerce, Accounting, etc. but that could change within the next few months.

Also not to mention that I've slacked off all my life and only started studying this year and did very poorly in Year 11.. so I guess my chances of being a doctor are very slim anyway. But I'll still keep the option open because you really never know.. you are going to stay with that career for the rest of your life so you better choose wisely.

For a number of reasons, I guess I've always been a Science kid and furthermore, have always relished a challenge and a new learning experience in this field. Medicine does this for me, it is a dynamic field that is constantly mentally stimulating. This combined with the patient and colleague interactions, makes it the most challenging and interesting profession around. Additionally, any hesitations I had about Medicine immediately disappeared after my week at the RCH, the environment was simply inspiring, to say the least.

Yeh, so that's pretty much it :P

This.  After all this time of possibility juggling (have considered voice acting to law, teaching to engineering, media presenting to politics), the only thing that has been certain is that I NEVER want to do medicine.  This has been something I've had in mind since...as earlier I can remember.  :p

power

Surely not, Russ
There are more plumbers and hairdressers in positions of leadership and power in this country than doctors :)
