hey daniwg,

Revs is one of those subjects that if you don't like the topics it can be difficult. It does as ggxoxo said require a lot of reading and memorising things like dates, historian's opinions etc. Though I can say that because I love history it wasn't so much of a problem.

Basically it all comes down to whether you think you will enjoy the subject. If not you will find it difficult because you won't want to do the reading etc and that will make it all the more difficult and unenjoyable

I loved the subject and it's one of my favourite VCE subjects. In terms of the difficulty, as History_buff said it largely depends on whether you enjoy the topic or not. If you think you'll enjoy it, I'd say go for it, especially if you're in year 11, you'll have more time for it anyway. I enjoyed reading so I didn't find that aspect difficult. (Except the historiography.) I found the exam to be difficult but it could have been less stressful had I prepared for it more efficiently. When it comes to looking at the exam, make sure you understand the format and try and get consistently responding to questions from the study design. You'll find some of the questions you practice can end up being the same ones on the exam.

Personally I found Revolutions to be one of my best subjects in my Year 12, although that may be down to having an inspirational teacher as well. With regards to difficulty, it comes down to application and memorisation. The general timeline of events will be relatively easy to remember, its just the dates and historians names that will require some tedious rote learning.

In terms of the assessment and examination, unfortunately its one of those subjects where you really need to rush with your writing. There simply isn't enough time to sit back and think or brainstorm when you're writing, as being history, there is just so much that you can write about and the limited time can make for some frustrating experiences.

That said however, I'd highly recommend doing this subject, you get to learn about some really interesting figures and events, and if you've got a few good friends doing it with you, its going to be really enjoyable.
