Listen to what taiga said, a high protein diet has been correlated with weight loss. When you do eat carbs, eat complex carbs, like wholegrain, wholemeal bread, brown rice etc. Try not to eat simple carbs like lollies and all that bad stuff
Since your trying to lose weight I would stop eating carbs around 4pm or so. So dinner could be chicken breast and salad. Definitely try and spread your meals out too, much better for your body.
Try and cut all transaturated fats out of your body and cut down on saturated fats. The type of fats you want are mono-unsaturated and poly-unsaturated. These are found in foods like almonds, avacadoes, olive-oil, tofu and some fish.
And eat vegetables morning, lunch and dinner! I think that really helps me function properly throughout the day.
With exercise, I'm not really sure what your situation is, but I would start a weight training program if possible. Check with your doctor first though. For the time being, start with some slow/light cardio, maybe like 10 minutes a day and build up.
