How to get 40+ for Further Maths

Hi guys, I'm wondering what kind of marks would you need to obtain to receive a score of 40+ on Further?

I believe if I can work really hard I can get a very high score.

Even though it was a small test today I got 29/29 for Chapters 1 and 2 which obviously doesn't count.

I did further in yr 11 and ended up with a 45, dropping 3 or 4 marks over both exams combined. In SACS over the year IIRC my average was between 90-95%, which ranked me second in the cohort (really its not the sac score that counts, its your sac ranking. Also the sac score you get will depend on the school, some schools have harder sacs, some have easier sacs, so sacs are moderated, but you want to  be near the top of the sac rankings in your cohort).

Further isn't such a hard subject, and thats why a few people slack off, but they pay for it at the end of the year. To do well in Further requires consistent effort (it can get boring as hell but you've got to keep putting the effort in) and to minimise silly mistakes. Above 45+, its about 1 mark on the exam lost=1 study score lost, and those who are getting this high, know their stuff and are normally seperated by the amount of silly mistakes they make.

So really just keep putting the effort in, try to be as high up in your cohort as you can be, and work on minimising the amount of silly mistakes you make. Good Luck :)

Thanks for the advice. Motivation is the key and to make sure no silly errors occur in the important assessments.

I don't know how relevant this is, but I was averaging consistently 94-95 in my tests in 1/2 and I got 90% for the exam, would marks like these get me a clear 40 or just sneak in?

I wouldn't be able to say since different schools have different difficulty sacs, tests and (for units 1/2 exams). But you're on the right track, keep up the motivation and hard work and nearly anything is possible :)

Other than English, Further Maths is the most popular VCE subject (approximately 25000-30000 students do it). You'll see that the main groups of people who do it are either those who struggle with maths, those who are average at maths and those who are studying Methods and/or Specialist and are quite capable mathematicians. However, from this third group in particular, you'll get a lot of slackers who do not realise the importance of taking the subject seriously.

Further Maths is extremely unforgiving of silly mistakes. Generally, one mark on the exam distinguishes students with study scores between 45-50. SAC marks are generally irrelevant - your ranking is what counts and where you'll need to sit depends on the strength of your cohort. If you're in a top cohort, your rank is also pretty irrelevant. If your school is above average (like mine) you can probably sit in the top 10% of your group. If your cohort is just average or below average, you'll probably want rank 1. This is because your schools SAC marks will get moderated in comparison to the GAT and what you got on the exams.
