PS. Paulsterio, pls stay out of this. You never got any 50's. You aint no genius :)

I'm not a genius, but that's a really low blow and a very incorrect definition of a "genius".

But if you live in the same planet as I do, Aurelian, you well know that the tutoring industry in this country is about to overtake mining as the largest industry in the land.

Hey investors - screw BHP Biliton and your revenue of $71.7 billion USD last year, TSFX is where it's at!
What a genius idea, investing in TSFX, can you imagine the portfolio diversification you get from doing that? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diversification_%28finance%29

You will make a brilliant investment analyst Aurelian ;)

I'm not a genius

Maybe you are, but I appreciate the modesty :)

You can only do one of two things on a forum such as this.
1) Say what everyone wants to hear and keep the circle jerk going
2) Be real and accurate

For me the reality of the situations is this:
There an industry out there whose aim is to get kids on the Medicine conveyor belt.
It starts at primary school with all sorts of priming and tutoring for private school scholarship exams and selective school entry exams.
Whilst in the 'elite' system, which in itself delivers advantages, there is another vast amount of coaching which goes on, be it at home, at TSFX, Dr He, Medentry or at any of a huge number of sweatshops around town.

In the end, the conveyor belt delivers a number of high achievers who also make it to Medicine.

People are now asking me to ignore this reality so that they can enjoy their 'natural born genius' fantasy.

EDIT: I actually have no problem with any of the above. Its just the way it is

There is no such industry, I'm afraid you're confusing getting into medicine and doing well. you've seemed to change your perspective from getting 50s to getting into medicine.

Also, I do not try to understand what you were trying to achieve by pointing out that that I had no 50s For someone who claims to be so smart, I thought you'd think of better arguments than to straw man me. just because I personally have no 50s doesn't mean that I don't know others who managed to get a 50 without tutoring.

In regards to your view on medicine entry. I'll be honest with you here.
I'm currently doing medicine at Monash.
1) I never went to any sort of tuition in primary school
2) I never did any scholarship training courses
3) I never did any tutoring for any subjects apart from English
4) I had tuition for English, but the majority of my marks came from my hard work
5) I did MedEntry for UMAT, but I did way more work on my own
6) I did a lot of work on the UMAT, learnt a lot of logic, did a lot of material hunting

Not what you call extensive tuition right?

And btw, while you sit there and attack me personally, why don't you tell us your study scores and ATAR do we can see if you are worthy of being called a genius. How rude and presumptuous of you to be labeling others.

And an ATAR of 99.95 is NOT a certificate of intelligence, it is actually proof that normally intelligent people can achieve academically if they are prepared to work hard.

Look what I found.

Maybe, you should listen to your own advice argonaut, why are you going around making the "genius" arguments now when you were so sure that 99.95 does not mean genius not that long ago. Sorry, I don't buy your arguments anymore, looks like you're not even sure yourself.

I doubt this is actually argonaut (as I remember him/her mentioning doing uni maths once somewhere), but looking at his/her first few posts:
Hi there,

I have just received my ATAR : 88.6
(Raw Study Scores, English 43, Literature 40, Aust History 37, Legal Studies 36, Further Maths 32)

My current 1st preference is Arts at Uni.of.Melb, which last year had a Clearly-In ATAR of 89

My question is this : Should I stick to my 1st preference, and how do you rate my chances of getting an offer.

Thanks in advance, folks

I cbs going through his/her posts to back this up or disprove it, but that's something that argonaut did post.
