Oral issues

I'm having trouble deciding what to do as my issue for my oral speech. Any suggestions? I was thinking possibly stem cell research, 'Asian' parents (being too overprotective), euthanasia... but I'm not sure if they would work well or have been in the news recently. So if anyone has any ideas that would be great.

If this is the sac to do with an issue in the Australian media.

These are some I can think of:
Same-Sex Marriage
QANTAS Grounding
Carbon Tax
Cyber-Bullying
War in Afghanistan

5.   Export of cattle and sheep
6.   Cigarette plain packaging
7.   Coal seam gas
8.   Recreational drug use in Australia
9.   Can Australia sustain a car industry?
10.   Productivity of Australian workers?
11.   Wind farm debate
12.   Should overweight people pay more to fly?
13.   Speed cameras
14.   Tax breaks for wealthy people
15.   Should skilled migrants be taught about hygiene?
16.   Asylum seekers
17.   Teenage Asylum seekers
18.   Maldive's climate refugees
19.   Are fireworks are waste of money?
20.   Murray Darling Basin
21.   Online privacy in regards to internet and social media
22.   Carbon tax
23.   Should Australia strengthen economic ties with India?
24.   Australia's role in Libyan conflict
25.   Nuclear power
26.   Nursing strikes
27.   QANTAS PR disaster
28.   Bali boy and drug charges
29.   Japanese whaling

Hey Hercules, there was definitely a protest against sopa infront of state during the holidays so I'd say it's definitely an Aussie issue now :D

I was thinking about it... But decided it was too hard LOL.
I guess it was more of an issue back then when there was the possibility that it could have gone through? Or something. Maybe it isn't an issue anymore in that case :S

LOOl really? That's weird, I thought the oral was part of using language to persuade. Or whatever it's called lol. What do u have to do, a monologue or something?

You have to do one oral presentation and one persuasive 'issues' piece. The oral can be on either issues or a text, and the persuasive 'issues' piece can be either written or oral.

Most schools combine them, but you don't have to in the Study Design.

would the ban on the burqa be a recent enough issue?

The Study Design says it has to have appeared in the media since 1 September 2011 (for this year). Burqa bans were topical in 2010, so I'd suggest picking something more recent.

Yeah i'm pretty sure both issues are recent enough, as the crime rates is always on going. However, i do think you'll find more recent articles regarding the racism in aus media. With the racism one you could also talk about the issue where people who fly aussie flags on their cars are deemed to be 'more racist' than those who do not. That was pretty huge a couple of months ago.
