I thought this may be of some help to you guys:

http://www.stewartcalculus.com/data/CALCULUS%207E%20Early%20Transcendentals/upfiles/6et_reviewofanalgeom.pdf

VCAA made it pretty clear with last year's exam 1 that you should know basic algebra.
good to touch up on these fundamentals IMHO

I'd post up the link for the entire book here, but then a few certain admins would threaten to ban me ;)

I didn't even realise circles were on the methods course, I don't recall learning them in class. Then again, if they were learnt in year 11 then there would be various reasons why...

I'm pretty sure they're not on the Methods course :)

I've seen them a few times in the essentials textbook for methods. They were all MC questions though, meaning you could use your calculator.

We did them in Methods 1+2 last year. Learn't the general equations of them and how to translate them. We used MQ 1+2 text book.

I didn't think they were either but

This area of study will include:

- determination of rules of simple functions and relations from given information, including
polynomial functions to degree 4 and of transformations (dilation, reflection and translation) of
the square root and circle relations

Key Knowledge

- equations of circles at the origin and translations of these

Key Skills

draw graphs of polynomial functions to degree 4 (approximate location of stationary points only
for cubic and quartic functions), power functions and circles of a given centre and radius;

BUT..... that is in units 1 & 2, there is no hits for "circle" using ctrl+f in the 3/4 methods part of the study design, so it looks like its just Methods 1/2 :) (....and spesh)

You can always argue about the study design, but does it really hurt to know that:

is a circle with the centre at with radius ?

Probably doesn't hurt to know that, so my advice is just to know it, you never know when it might be required on an exam, you might be given a circle as part of a modelling task or something like that.
