I'm not sure what you're attempting to demonstrate here, but it certainly isn't that Biomedicine doesn't offer an advantage

I'm thinking along the lines of it being the students in BBioMed rather than the BBioMed course itself which is the reason why there are more BBioMed kids in MD than Science kids.
Not sure, but if there's no advantage/disadvantage in the selection process itself then the only thing which is related to your undergraduate course is the GPA, and that's not affected by the Science/BioMed choice.

Yeah, it may just be that the biomed group is much smarter than the science group - which is what you'd expect anyway.

Hmm, that's what I was thinking because if I did a BSc and majored in like Computer Science with a GPA of say 6.5, I'd still be better placed than a BBioMed kid with a GPA of 6.0, for example, provided same GAMSAT and same interview.

Yeah well I keep getting told that if a science student and a biomed student both have the same GPA, GAMSAT and interview score, the biomed student wouldn't get preference just because he/she did biomed.

You need to reread what I posted, which isn't that Biomed gives you an advantage in selection, but that it prepares you better for the MD

May i ask you why people do Biomed or why its competitive if science provides almost the same course.

1) Prestige
2) UoM's awesome advertising and marketing skills

That's all :)

Paulsterio, although I haven't spent much time in Biomedicine yet, you are wrong.

I think the best part of biomed so far is how much we all support each other and the level of talent across the board that you're working with. There's brilliance all around you and a lot of people are really determined academically. I really wanted to do a pure maths undergrad degree and post-grad med degree, but the strength and quality of the biomed cohort is what swayed me towards it.

P.S: How are you comparing UoM Science and Biomed without even being at the uni o.O, from what you read on the internet?

I never said you were wrong

Paul very strongly implied I was, and I was telling him that he doesnt know what he's talking about with respect to the MD

Disagree, most of the people I've met in biomed are private school or SEAS. Neither of these things qualify you as greater intelligence than your typical Science student.

What was the SEAS cut off for biomed this year because i got 94.35 and i didn't get accepted into biomed even though i went to an under rep school. I was told 92 was minimum.

I'm pretty sure that it was 92 for SEAS.

92 was the required ATAR for guarantee if you met certain disadvantages (For this year, rural or financial background).

It is possible to get in with even lower than 92 and it's possible that you'll miss out with 98.95 depending on your SEAS application, they will deem whether you have a place in the course or not.

I was in the category of under under rep school and nothing else in seas. I got 94.35 and they didn't let me in must be cause i was not Financially disadvantaged? Oh well, I'm doing BSc i can pretty much mimic the biomed course.

I don't think it's possible under 92. That's the absolute minimum Melbourne will go, unless you go with Science, a 78 and then structure your course like the Biomed one and then compete for MD.

56% of Biomed students got under the clearly-in, so yeah. Intelligence and smartness are very loose terms, but you can sort of 'feel' it, so to say. There are incredibly smart people in Science who aren't interested in medicine at all, it's not that every person who gets 98-99 automatically goes into medicine (if 98-99+ is considered 'smart')

No, it is definitely possible with 92. Show me where it says contrary to this?

All it says specifically, is that if you meet certain criteria 92 is the guaranteed ATAR.

Let's take a two students for example, one is rural and gets 92.2 and one is rural, survived cancer and financially disadvantaged with 91, they'd probably take the latter IMO.
