I am doing Chemistry 1, i want to know are we expected to memorise all the energy values of each of the molecules in ground state and excited state? What are we expected to know before the exam.

It has only been one week so far, no need to concern yourself with the exam yet.

If you are dying to see what the sum total of the course ends up being in your final assessment look at the past exams.

Lol, i HAVE to be concerned about the exam from week 1 if i am going to maintain a high GPA to get into med in the future.

I seem to remember the lecturer mentioning that we needed to know the C-H and C-C bond energies as well as bond lengths (100kcal/mol or 435kj/mol and 1.10A respectively for C-H if I recall correctly. I can't remember C-C off the top of my head but bond length is slightly longer and bond energy slightly less). Other than this, I don't think we'd need to know excessive detail? Best check with your tutor though

But... but... but...  Week 1 has only just passed and week 2 just started.  Already concerned about exams?

How about which suit to wear for graduation?  How about your future house?  Future partner?  Appearance of kids?  Global warming?

The list is endless!  I think I'm going to die of stress.

Pretty sure you just need to know the relative strengths of the bonds as opposed to the actual numbers. Always best to check with your tutor/lecturer.

In other news,

I got owned by my chemistry prac today. Had to restart 3 times, due in part to my titration involving me titrating a solution of dilute HCl into a solution of concentrated HCl and expecting a colour change

You can imagine the dismay on my face when the burette emptied with no colour change

Lesson learned: don't neglect chemistry and then go into a prac expecting to remember everything
