The shortcut/ checking methods for Specialist thread

Basically, in some specialist concepts there are some shortcut's that individuals may use that are not exactly on the VCAA study design however are able to be used on the exam as a check up, which would prove to be a good tool for those that want to get higher.
I've seen some over the boards, but I was hoping to have this board to compile them up in order to have this resource thread shared by the students that basically want to use outside methods to check.
Its similar for physiiics, I have read a couple of diploma books and there are many shortcuts that I have utilized to check and get higher on sacs, though they are strictly against the VCAA study design, so when I do the exam they will be on the side lines to check and then rubbed out.
Anyone want to give any?
Ill be posting a couple for specialist, since the list is quite short compared to all the other subjects, but take note these are not to be used on the exam, rather just to double check your work.

What do you mean by this? You can check your answer however ever you want to. Just make sure you make it clear what you want the examiner to mark i.e. put a cross through the checks, otherwise you'll be wasting time rubbing it out....

I think he/she means checking with formulas or techniques that are out of the scope of the course.

eg. using integration by parts to check a "integration by recognition" type question (one that I tended t use too)

Using A=ab(pi) for solving for the area of an ellipse, or using V=(4/3)(pi)abc for the volume of an ellipsoid are other such "checking" techniques :)

There is a similar formula for a torus (doughnut) also exists, but I don't remember it...
