What are the statistics? I know that there isn't a lot of places, but I also guess there'd be less people going for the DDS than there would be for the MD.

Extremely competitive or it will be by the time you're applying for it. There's a fair few people in my Biomed cohort going for it.

There aren't many places and once you factor in all the guaranteed places, it's pretty damn hard.

If you can afford a FFP, you should get in. If not, you will be working very very hard.

That's crazy ^

I know of at least 5 people with the 99.9 who plan on doing DDS

Wtf, they should offer more CSP, ideally

But even if not, they should offer more FFP than International...considering they get the same amount of money off Int. or FFP. Where's the support for Australian students UoM?!

One word: Money. :P

Hence the emphasis on full-fee places and international students.

According to the university, the government does not provide funding for more CSP places.  I'm also under the impression that there are no strict FFP domestic/international quotas so that changes from year to year.

Yeah. Basically they offer as many CSPs as they can afford then the rest who applied are offered FFPs if they're willing to pay. Lot of people are, which isn't exactly a bad idea, since dentistry is a reasonably rapid pathway to a pretty decent income

I don't understand why there's so many Internationals rather than FFP, though

There are already more local places than internationals. They can't keep adding more local FFP because of limited teaching spaces and laboratory seats.

There was supposed to be 26 CSP places this year. According to dental admissions, MDHS was responsible for allocating their CSP spots among their courses and the DDS didn't get as many as expected. So a handful of people missed out on getting upgraded which was rather disappointing.

No, but I meant decrease International and increase FFP, so like more FFP and less International.

I've always found it a little unfair that Australian students (who are willing to pay for FFP) miss out while an international student is allowed the to get the place - like in my opinion, I think there should be more Australian students and less International students, considering the uni gains the same $$$ from FFP and IFP

It's probably the school that decides the proportion of locals and internationals and it's always been the same (50:50) :( Internationals pay $10k more than local FFP, maybe that's why :P

That makes perfect sense now :P unfair, but I guess, unis need to make a profit, btw, now I understand how insanely rich some of the internationals are...they pay like 25k per year?! holy :\
