Maths Quest 12 Specialist Mathematics

Hi everybody! I have borrowed Maths Quest 12 Specialist Mathematics from my school library. However it seems rather an old textbook. It says that it is specifically designed for the VCE (2000-2003) Units 3 and 4 Specialist Mathematics course. But would this still be reliable to use as study as I don't really want study something that I don't have to, no matter how tempting it may seem. Is it relevant to the current study design? What changes have they made? I'm using this as further support material, for General Math (Advanced), at least for the relevant bits. At the moment I plan to do Specialist Mathematics next year.

Well, any thoughts on the above will be interesting!

I asked a similar question a bit back and the only thing I was told was that the structure of the exams changed but the topics are still the same.

From the VCAA website, the changes made to produce the current curriculum are explained as:
"The use of implicit differentiation has been made explicit, and the work on the relationship between the graph of a function and the graph of its anti-derivative function linked to direction (slope) fields of a differential equation. The numerical solution of certain simple differential equations has also been linked to numerical integration using technology."

I think the changes are:
- Linear dependence of vectors has been emphasised
- Implicit differentiation is definitely IN
- Slope fields are IN
- The modulus function as the argument of natuaral logs are in eg  ln |x|
- The calculator is emphasised more for numerical solution to differential equations.

What about trigonometry specifically? Any changes there I should know about?
