im using a wireless Bigpond modem, ive had it for years, do you reckon I should get a new one?

If it's an adsl connection, that's definitely too low i think.. try plugging your laptop or computer directly into the modem and check the speed. If its faster then its probably the modem's wireless that is stuffed up, or maybe your wireless card.
or try using http://www.ozspeedtest.com/ and see what happens...

dat download. wish mine were that good. I only get 3-4mbps down and 1-2mbps up, does what I need it to though.
