the system is clearly flawed
the fact that she got 99.95
So the system is flawed because she wasn't allowed to use a computer, despite the fact she was granted rest breaks? ANYONE WHO HAS REST BREAKS DURING THE ENGLISH EXAM IS LIKELY TO GET A BETTER SCORE. How the hell does that prove her disability?

This is all about precedents. If VCAA had let her use a computer for "wrist cramps", it creates a dangerous slippery slope. Considering she scored 99.95 and got into her course there's no reason for VCAA to change its ruling. This is just a really stupid scenario and common sense has to prevail.

And yes, this girl probably has no life and is trying to juke the system. Why would someone care about their ATAR 4 years down the track into studying medicine? Better yet, she's in her 20's and still has mommy fighting her VCE battles. I thought people had better things to do when studying medicine. What a joke.

Did anyone read the article? It's not even Victorian haha :D

(HSC -> UAI (2008) -> top score is 100 not 99.95 -> prefers students use a scribe rather than a computer)

Given that she scored so highly, I honestly don't believe that a computer would have made such a slight difference to get her to 100. It would either have made no difference whatsoever, or given her a large unfair advantage. Can't see much middle ground here.

Although she's definitely well within her rights to challenge it.

On another note, the main differentiator between a perfect ATAR and the next highest thing in Victoria is scaling :p

yea i clarified this previously, i agree it's not a 'clearly flawed system'
but even still,
can we stop arguing about whether or not she is disabled? like what the hell, everyone here is going
'okay well she's probably not disabled, so lets call her a jackass'
and also 'anyone who has rest breaks during the english exam is likely to get a higher score' - what exactly is this in reference too ?

and you ask the same question as me, 'why would someone care about their ATAR 4 years down the track...'
you wouldn't, no one would...
becoming a doctor, that's a noble profession people who are passionate about the health of others become doctors, i assume that she may have had a personal attachment to the issue and feels cheated, and is trying to look out for others who may be like her have wrist issues.. isn't that a possibility?
Tell me 'no, there is no way, not a 1% chance that this girl didnt have a genuine disability and she is trying to juke the system. that despite being a 4th year med student, with the current workload of medicine, has decided that "Hey, i suddenly realised i want a higher enter score.. i know ill make some BS about my sore wrist and complain about it, because me and my mum are cool like that.'' ...'

i mean is there really a need to stereotype and attack her when we have hardly any information about this?

I don't give a damn if she is disabled or not. The point is that it had little to no impact on her education, her results or her future. I assume a 99.95/100 is still enough to get her a scholarship into medicine - the news article made no mention of this. Therefore, the ONLY detriment she suffered is losing the bragging rights to having a 100, and seriously, who gives a fuck 4 years after the fact? Most normal, rational people stop caring 4 goddamn MONTHS afterwards.

She and her mother are cluttering up an already overloaded system which has much more important things to deal with (e.g. http://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/adt) with her pointless and ridiculous whinging. I think they deserve all the public ridicule they can get.

edit: looked up her name out of curiosity, of course she's Asian -_-

5 years down the track....

Student: I want to lodge a complaint about discrimination against me.
VCAA    : What for?
Student: I got a brain freeze during my maths exams and couldn't do the last question and wasn't granted special provisions.

UPDATE: http://www.theage.com.au/nsw/not-high-enough-student-loses-appeal-over-9995-mark-20120703-21etp.html

She lost her appeal.
That's crazy. Her appeal was so convincing! She must of had a bad lawyer.

I'm so wishing on this.

I think you can get 100 in NSW? Or at least you could at the time this girl took her HSC.

Yeah +1 charmanderp, I think I made that point of UAI of 100 at least twice in this thread already.

At least it shows how many people post without reading a thread. *sigh*
