Cramming at Uni

What are people's experiences with Cramming at Uni? I hear its very prominent to cram as Uni students have a lot of commitments such as work, social life, etc. and may find it harder to manage their time and find time to study. I particularly want to see the Med's students view on this, do you guys cram? If not, How do you manage your time? Is it possible to work + have a social life + do Medicine? By cramming I mean doing the majority of your study the last few days of an exam, in some cases a few hours before it.

Also how effective is cramming at Uni? Wouldn't cramming actual lead to incompetence in the career pathway that you are heading towards? Because surely if you are cramming in information in an Engineering or Commerce degree before tests and SACs  it's going to be harder to deeply understand the material and apply it once you finish Uni.

So in general What are your opinions on cramming in general for both Uni and in High school? Would you consider it more easier to cram in VCE or University? Have you crammed in Uni or High School before, if so what what marks did you get? Personally I general cram before SACs - But I'd rather not do that for the exam as it's very risky.

I think the effectiveness of cramming (either in highschool or uni) really depends on how well the student handles stress/pressure in general - cramming works for some as they can "work well under pressure", but for others it just puts them under more stress and causes them to make a mess of the task before them
