pi how hard did you study for Physics? I've only done like 4 practice papers for it (getting like 80% lol) and at this stage I don't know if I should spend more time on it because it most probably my bottom 2. I'm also ranked pretty low (50 out of 115 students) so I don't know :(

Depends if you want BM to be in your bottom 2 or top 4. if you want BM to be in your bottom 2 then it's too risky to neglect physics

I wrote off physics as my 8th subject after I got my mid year SoM yet I did SOME study for that (set work and about 5-6 trial exams) and a few VCAA questions from old study design (which were hard and interesting!) that were relevant - physics turned out to be my 5th subject instead of my 8th.

So anyway, I'd say just do some study for physics - some trial exams, but the important thing is doing PROBLEMS! Don't go hardcore, but just do whatever's necessary. After all, you could do a lot better than you expect (and if you didn't study you might go - why didn't i put effort before?)

^ LOL

and Paul BM definitely is in my bottom 2, and  probs going to be physics as well (going to aim for a high 30). I don't want to neglect it but I just find the course so... dull in comparison to say Chemistry.
I'm going to aim to do about 15 prac exams before the exam and just see how I go. Hopefully my boss summary sheet will carry me :p

Well - so it's about 1.5 weeks until the Unit 3 Chemistry Exam, 27 pages, 77 marks. How are you guys feeling about it?

I'm sorry, WHAT????

27 PAGES. WAIT, WHAT?

You can't really read into it much and it's not much to worry about - it's on par with the length from previous years -  it does include the cover page and all the multiple choice questions (multiple choice is usually about 10 to 12 pages by itself) and short answer questions are usually 2 or 3 pages each.

If you want to worry about length, the physics exam cover for this year says 43 pages. Have fun :P
(but again, nothing to worry about, that includes cover page, AOS1, AOS2 and all the pages for all three detailed studies)

It's been taking me just over an hour to do them when I slow myself right down, and reread ever question over and over. I think I'm going to go through each of the calculation questions again at the end, typing them into my calculator again, because that seems to be where I lose most of my marks, copying down an extra zero or something.. And I usually choose a straight forward short answer question with minimal 'explain' parts to it during reading time, do that first to get my confidence up, do multiple choice, then the rest of short answer. Does that seem like a reasonable approach? I need all the advice I can get :)

27 pages sounds about right for a chem exam? - judging from previous VCAA exams

Maybe it just has heaps of graphs and diagrams? Either way, there's no difference between a 77 mark exam over 27 pages and a 77 mark exam over 20 pages...

I'm feeling really uneasy about this exam.

What would I need throughout the year for a 38 raw?
Aspiring doctor. Why? For the same four reasons as everybody else. Chicks, money, power and chicks.

Nah, probs mean just more explain questions, so you have to work harder for marks. and even for a chem exam 27 pages is fairly long...!

Well last year was 25 pages, and it wasn't a particularly long exam - so I don't think 27 pages is anything too extreme?

Either way, quit worrying, if it's long, it's long for everyone! and plus, having a long/hard exam is what you want, it gives you more of a chance to differentiate yourself from the other 7900 odd chemistry students in the state.

I'm feeling really uneasy about this exam.

What would I need throughout the year for a 38 raw?

Two A's and an A+ would do the trick - would be enough to score you somewhere around there - the lowest I've seen with three A+ is actually 38 - but they mus be pretty unlucky :P
