Are the exams scanned like in Year 12 or just collected/sent?
Bit worried that some my working out may get cut off if they are scanned cause I was running out of space....

i dont think they are scanned

every faculty is different but the general method is either every tutor gets a bunch of exams each and marks them

or

each tutor gets allocated a question to correct

if anything wrong (like fails) the main marker checks again

if your working out is quite obvious then im pretty sure it will be fine

I know in first year maths they give the tutors up to 100 papers to mark in a single week. They mark 4 an hour, so they have to find time to spend 25 hours of marking in a single week. On the plus side, the amount of money you get after that is crazy

how do you become a tutor? do they ask you if you get a high grade or do you have to apply somewhere?

if you have a good relationship with your tutor, or someone who is tutor/lecturer and you obtain a very good score in that subject you can just ask them if you can tutor. Also some subjects have PASS groups which look for tutors as well.

There are tutors on this forum from Monash like TT, you can ask them how they got their positions as well.

Different faculties have different rules. Some allow tutors in 2nd year, others 3rd year, others you need to be an honours student. If you're wanting to tutor in maths, and are in 3rd year or above, then you'll need to get in contact with Simon Teague. As with other subjects, contact lecturer/someone in the department?

Yup what both mystikal and jimmy said. There are different rules for each faculty, heck, even different rules for each unit, it depends on the unit coordinator themselves.

Eg, I got the position to tutor AFC2340 next sem because I started talking to Andrew Sanford (who takes the unit) during the semester break before the year even started about the unit. Then continued communication with him by email throughout the semester and got to know him very well. In the process, I told him about my experiences at teaching and how I was really passionate for the unit, he also checked my scores (WAM/GPA) and said there will be slots available next sem (as he is firing some tutors who aren't doing a very good job lol!) so told me I will be first to get the available slots.

Some other units are difficult to get the job, like AFC3540, the unit coordinator never checks email, it's hard to grab hold of him after lectures to even chat, so yeah it all really depends on the unit/faculty.

Other factors come into play as well, eg, I'm very good friends with my AFC2340 tutor this sem (I've had him for at least one subject ever since first year), he's been on the job for 3 years now and is one of the best tutors for the subject (and other finance subjects too), all of the lecturers really trust him, so I had him refer me as well which helped alot.
