How about a tutorial on youtube  or this forum as something  may come up fo many of us. So we  could can ask questions during the week on  a topic  your discussing,  and if there questions  people are getting wrong or  do not understand them,  you could Answer.  no?

We had considered those options, except the forum isn't instantaneous and its not as popular as Skype. As for YouTube, it's not particularly interactive, it'd just be me lecturing. The point of the tutes is that it's interactive :)

Btw guys, once you made your AN Skype accounts (if you already have a Skype account just make a new email address for ATARnotes to make your AN Skype account if you wish) add me - my Skype name is "ANthushan"

Yeah true didn't  think of it that way,  hence the name tutorial  not lecture.

OK here's my verdict:

Forum threads:

Quite a popular choice in the polls. Great idea, my original idea.  However, we have a problem - it's not instant, so we'll have all sorts of people talking at the same time and posting out of sync. Not my favourite idea to be honest.

Skype:

Most popular choice. Very good idea. Problems include privacy and issues with moderation. Privacy can be alleviated with new Skype accounts, and I'll deal with moderation. But if anyone decides to troll and make trouble on Skype, that'd be awful, and I'd have to take action there. But I know you guys won't make trouble! As for non-availability, downloading Skype is free. And as for talking vs typing, i'm thinking typing is better because not everyone has a mic and bandwidth doesn't die. Anyways, I'm thinking this is the best option, so we'll go Skype.

IRC:

Issues are graphics, hard to read text, cannot send files over. Not a very popular choice from what I see.

TeamViewer and that:

Seems good, but people seem to like Skype better.

So Skype it is.

Guys if you could make Skype accounts for AN and make your account name a variant of "ANthushan" or "ANlaseredd" or sth and PM me when you've done it. You can use your real Skype if you want. Add "ANthushan" to your AN Skype address.

We'll gather on a thread on AN called Tutorial 2, then we'll open a Skype convo once we have the ppl rounded up.
See you guys @ Saturday 7:30 pm.

If there are any issues with me making it, I'll let you know early.

Hi Thushan, what is the plan for this? Is it meant to be a tute for going over some preliminary unit 4 material?  ;D

We'll be going over Energy Profiles and Reaction Rates. In fact, would you like to be the person who explains these two concepts to the rest of the tute?

Tute will run like this: someone introduces and explains the concept - others ask questions and discussion ensues - i fire questions.

Ah that does sound like fun! But I haven't had the time to go over much of unit 4 yet...don't think I'll have a chance to do so sufficiently before saturday. Would love to be involved in the discussion though!
