End of Unit 3

Hey guys,

So I got my final SAC mark for Unit 3 today.. I was sitting on 80/80, rank 1 in the cohort until I got 19/20 on my language analysis SAC :( Sitting on 99/100 raw for Unit 3.

Not sure if anyone else is on 100/100 raw SAC marks but that's besides the point - I really wanted 100/100 raw SAC marks and rank 1.

I asked my teacher why I dropped the mark and she said that she gave me 20/20 but the cross marker gave me 19/20 and wouldn't be persuaded because although my piece was of a very high standard, some of the words in my piece were almost unreadable. I can understand this - especially considering I sort of struggled for time during the SAC.

Do you guys think this is too harsh of a penalty for terrible handwriting in some areas of my piece?

Thanks...

I'd really appreciate serious answers - I'm aiming for a SS of 50 in English.

Seriouspost: One would think that's the minimum penalty not a harsh penalty. Forget about it, move on to unit 4.

Losing 1 mark doesn't seem too harsh, especially if it did make it very difficult to read.

Nice scores though, I know plenty of people with 50 who did worse than that.

Argh - oh well. Thanks for the answers, guys. My teacher really thinks that I should have gotten 20/20 though so she told me she was having my piece marked by a third assessor. I really hope they find it a little easier to read..

In terms of why I care - I want to be the best in English and had distant dreams of getting a Premiers...

That's now down the drain considering I've heard you need perfect SAC marks (raw) and 60/60 on the exam.

If some of the handwriting was illegible I would see that as being fair. You'll probably get 100 scaled so no need to fret over this. Fantastic result though, pretty sure anyone would be ecstatic with those marks.

The mark's meaningless. Whether it's 99 or 100, you're still almost certainly ranked first in your school, which is what counts. Be grateful you lost that mark here where it's absolutely meaningless, and use it as motivation to not make the same mistake in the exam where a single mark will actually count.

I'm almost certain that someone who was on 80/80 like me would have gotten 20/20 though.. :( that would make me rank 2...

Oh well. Nothing I can possibly do now will change anything. I'm just hoping that the third assessor gives me a 20..

If VCAA struggle to read your handwriting in some areas then you will lose a mark or two. To the examiners you are a random student and they will not give you any special considerations.

You can get 50 with those scores man. I REALLY wouldn't worry about it.

Omfg it's one mark who cares seriously, you can make up for it in your exam SAC marks are not everything

I was ranked 1 at a school that produces 50s every year and I got a 46

rank 1 != 50

I understand that perfect SAC marks doesn't mean that I'll get a 50 and the fact that I have stuffed up Unit 3 doesn't count that much.

It does count if I want a premiers, though - and that's what I was hoping for..

To others reading this thread:

Just because you don't have 100/100 SAC marks, does NOT mean you have "stuffed" up a unit. You can get a 50 with even 90/100. So if you're reading this and going: "Fuck, I've lost so much more than 1 mark in English this year, I'm so screwed", you are NOT screwed.

Clearly, Surgeon has a lot of talent and has a very high expectation. If you're not of the same (and I wasn't), then don't read this and feel bad. You are still well on your way to getting your desired score with marks less than this :)
