Why would you waste your money like that?

It really is more of a fashion statement than a piece of head gear imo. Very boomy bass and not a lot of high end (muffled).

Meanwhile, I broke my SRH 440 so now I have a pair of SRH 550 DJ headphones :)

Yeah, but the Detox is $600, like that's just a clear waste of money! The ATH-M50 will sound better than them and cost like 20% of what they cost, it's ridiculous.

Like, I'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon and say Beats are shit, because OK, they're not THAT bad and they're reasonable for certain types of music, but they're hell overpriced.

I have Beats by Dre Studio headphones, black vers.
Rarely use them though, got them for cheap from someone I know that works at JB HI FI.
I think the big downside is the use of batteries, the fact that it's plastic, and the sound leakage, those who pay full price for the studios or solos could really be spending their money more efficiently on more durable and better sound quality headphones.

I think Detox is better quality, similar to the DJ Pros?

I don't think you need the batteries do you? They're only there for the noise cancelling aren't they?

Nope, still needs the batteries to even work, the noise cancellation is pretty good, but they failed to consider the sound leakage.

Aww that sucks!

The one thing that beats excel in is build quality, I would probably go as far as saying it's one of the best. The side bands or what ever you call them seem to be milled from a single block of metal! Don't think you could accidentally break them.

I think it's the youtube videos of people breaking the headphones that made me worry about the build quality, I am quite certain though that a pair of Detox headphones would be less likely to break compared to the Solo's.

I have some ATH-M50s which are amazing for how much they cost.

Beats are pretty much a fashion accessory which costs hundreds of dollars , I've seen some guys just wear them without even being in, just cordless headphones around their necks.

If you're not carrying a bag, where else are you meant to store your headphones when you're not listening? :P

Hahah, just because it's made out of metal doesn't mean it's good, have you felt what the Pro's are like on your head, they're like a clamp!

It's got an adequate build quality. It does not by any means 'excel' at anything.

If you want build quality, try the Sennheiser HD25-1 II. It simply does not break, and even if it does, you can buy replacement parts for any component.

Like, I'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon and say Beats are shit, because OK, they're not THAT bad and they're reasonable for certain types of music, but they're hell overpriced.
Beats are shit, there's no point in cushioning the criticism. Beats are shit in the same way that Sanyo earplugs are shit (no matter how much 'dynamic bass' they put on the packaging). I can find you a $50 pair of headphones that will outperform a $200 Beats in every way. For every genre of music, there are many adequately priced headphones that will make the 'reasonable' sounding Beats sound like a homeless guy banging on frying pans. I don't actually understand how people defend its sound (like those people who defend the sound of Apple earplugs).

Atm some half-broken earphones that I got from Safeway.  :P What sort of headphones would people recommend for uni travel (trains etc.) next year that aren't too expensive?
