1) At room temperature 0.80 moles of SO2 and 0.40 moles of O2 were introduced into a sealed 10 L vessel and allowed to come to equilibrium.

a) Write the equilibrium constant expression and calculate the value for the
equilibrium constant at time A.
Solution

(b) Explain why a new equilibrium position was established at time B.

(c) Could someone help explain to me why the concentration of SO3 increased and SO2 decreased before Time A was reached? tnx..

2.) The graph shows the variation in concentration of reactant and products as a function of time for the following system.

(i) Identify and explain each of the changes in conditions that have shaped the curves during the time the system was observed.

(What should my answer contain in order to obtain full mark for such a Q like this?)

Would the one below be enough to be rewarded full marks?
  • At 4 minutes, The equilibrium experienced an raise in temperature, favouring the net forward reaction.
  • At 10 minutes, There was a sharp in [CO] suggesting that it was removed from the equilibrium, in which case favoured the net forward reaction.
  • At 14 minutes, all of the reactants and product's concentration abruptly decrease, therefore indictaing an increase in volume.
