Is it possible to do Specialist Maths if...?

I'm just wondering if it is possible for someone to have done General Maths in Year 11, doing Further Maths in Year 12, and be eligible to do Specialist Maths in Year 12 as well?

Yes it is possible to do 3 maths

Think when you do three maths . Only  two calculates towards your top four.. HOWEVER , i am not sure.

I think he means whether its possible to do Spesh without having done 1/2, given he's only done Further units 1 &2.

I think at our school you can't do spesh 3/4 without having done methods 1/2 or 3/4. You'd be best of asking your teacher.

Methods is a pre-requisite for Spesh - you cannot do Spesh without being concurrently enrolled in Methods or having already completed Methods. But I'm not sure, could you rephrase your question Siddarth?

Well you can, and I'm not too sure about this but wouldn't Specialist be insanely difficult without Methods as a complement? Assuming that you don't do Methods

This may help:

There are no prerequisites for entry to Foundation Mathematics Units 1 and 2, General Mathematics
Units 1 and 2 or Mathematical Methods (CAS) Units 1 and 2. However, students attempting
Mathematical Methods (CAS) are expected to have a sound background in number, algebra, function,
and probability. Some additional preparatory work will be advisable for any student who is undertaking
Mathematical Methods (CAS) Unit 2 without completing Mathematical Methods (CAS) Unit 1.
Units 3 and 4 of a study are designed to be taken as a sequence. Students must undertake Unit 3 of a
study before entering Unit 4 of that study.
Enrolment in Specialist Mathematics Units 3 and 4 assumes a current enrolment in, or previous
completion of, Mathematical Methods (CAS) Units 3 and 4.
Units 1 to 4 are designed to a standard equivalent to the final two years of secondary education. All
VCE studies are benchmarked against comparable national and international curriculum.

Thanks for the help guys. Our school didn't aware us about the importance of Methods during our subject selections, and I wasn't aware personally either and didn't think of looking it up on University websites. I'm too late for joining Methods now as they are already half-way through Unit 2. Otherwise I would've surely done Methods. I was considering doing Specialist, but seeing your responses, most likely won't.

It's possible in that VCAA would let you enrol etc. But not very highly recommended at all if you're looking for a decent study score.

Depends on the school, but it should be possible

Note than you'll need a pretty big catch-up session in the summer break though.

Yeah, if the school allows me to do that, I will surely try to do it, because my aim is to get into Commerce, and it requires Methods as a pre-requisite. I'll be surely up for working through the Units 3/4 textbook through my holidays, and do whatever it takes to get there. Thanks guys

2. Become familiar with the topics you will need for 3/4. Some are a bit tricky but it will save you a hell of a lot of time later

Might also be a wise idea to purchase a Methods 1/2 textbook, and also continue working hard in General Maths in case your school decides to be really tight and use your results as a basis for whether you can do 3/4 or not

I've got access to the Methods 1/2 Textbook, and we started Unit 2 for General Maths yesterday, and I'm paying my full attention as I want to improve greatly in Year 11, and as for Number 1  I will do so tomorrow Thanks for your help! Really appreciate it
