They are. It's so much easier to do well in competitions if you've already been at that high level - I know that my physics has improved a lot over the last 2 months or so (and so has everyone else's!).

But the guy I'm thinking of has similar results to one of my friends who did maths camp + he has better AMC/general competition results. It's odd.

I know... Colin Lu! He got a silver this year in AMO.
