Zener Diodes

hey all
are zener diodes still in the study design for "Electronics and Photonics"?
i know you have to learn it if your doing "further electronics" but my detailed study is "materials & structures".

Only types of diodes you need to know are LED(light emitting diode) and photodiodes.
