It's approaching exam time and you might want to think about this kind of stuff. The resources for IT Applications aren't extensive, but there's more than enough stuff floating around.
Some of this stuff does cost money, but you don't necessarily have to spend any money yourself. You won't be putting yourself at any disadvantage if you decide not to bother with revision lectures etc.
The practice exams available for the subject aren't all that great, and you should always be taking the learning opportunity of criticising the given question or answer. The possible answer to exam questions are often quite broad, there's often no 'one correct way' of answering a question. You should be able to pick out the wrong ways, or be able to justify one answer over another though. Justifying your answer is one of the more important exam techniques you can pick up.
Also, you don't really need to spam heaps and heaps of exams for this subject, it's better to focus on your exam technique and mastering your knowledge of the course.
I found it quite helpful to go through the study design and create a set of notes dot point by dot point. I read over these / condensed these quite frequently.
If your teacher hasn't already got a few trial exams, you should be able to convince your school to buy some (at the very least, if your school is going to spend money, I'd recommend the QATs exams). If not though, the VCAA exams are more than enough to learn from. Despite the availability of company exams, you would be putting most of your focus on the VCAA resources anyway.
As far as I'm aware, the trial exams available for the current study design are:
From 2011:
2 QATs Exams - These are the best exams available.
3 VITTA Exams - Probably the second best ones available, but nothing to write home about. Don't dismiss them by any means.
1 Insight - This one was okay.
2 TSSM (school version, student version)
Kilbaha - I didn't bother with this one
CSE/IARTV - Only in hardcopy, I don't recall doing these ones
The 2 exams from the Nelson textbook - Not that great, not overly VCAA style either
Note: Don't post on ATARNotes asking for copies of exams, see Posting rules2012:
As far as I know, there are 3 VITTA exams that are out. Note that some companies aren't producing 2012 exams.
Also Kilbaha, Engage Ed, TSSM, CSE/IARTV have 2012 exams.
VCAA:Pay very close attention to anything VCAA. Also pay very close attention to the assessor reports, and Mark Kelly's post-mortems.
VCAA 2011 of course. There's also the set of sample questions, which highlights the style of questions for
new content in this study design. Note that VCAA don't produce solutions for their sample exam.
The previous study design ones (2007 - 2009) are worth doing. There are a few questions that are off the study design now. If I recall correctly, Swinburne produced an excellent spreadsheet with the list of relevant questions, that was available from their end of year revision lecture website.
It's probably not worth bothering with the Information Processing and Management exams, they're too old and the study design has shifted too much in focus since then imo.
Revision LecturesI didn't physically attend any revision lectures for IT Apps, so I can't say too much about these.
Of course, this one goes without saying
VCE IT APPS REVISION SESSION Swinburne -
http://www.swinburne.edu.au/ict/vceit/ - Free, you can also sign up and access the resources online, if you can't make it. Last year they had the recording of the presentation + slides up there. I watched that and it was pretty good stuff.
(I'm not sure about details for this for 2012, but the 2011 details were) VITTA - 1 hour, $35. In my opinion, this is overpriced for just one hour. I didn't attend it though, so I can't really say much.
The presentation from last year is here though, which is nice:
http://www.vitta.org.au/students/asset_id/43/cid/12/parent/0/t/students/title/resources-from-the-student-exam-revision-lectures.
TSSM - October 21st,
http://www.tssm.com.au/vce-4-hour-final-program-unit-4.aspx $91. I don't know much about this, but I think it's overpriced too.
Engage Education - Monday 24th September - $52
http://engageeducation.org.au/vceseminars/enrol-online/end-of-year-exam-vceseminars/it-applications-end-of-year-exam-vceseminar-detail - The Engage one is being taken by Mark Kelly.
I realise this post probably has too much of a Mark Kelly bias, but I don't think anyone would disagree with it. I don't believe the praise is undeserved though, the quality of the QATs exams are quite a notch higher than the other practice exams available. And of course the amount of resources available on VCEIT.com. I relied on this website extensively for IT Apps and using it a lot again for Software Development.
