VCE Legal Studies lecture: Expression of interest thread
« on: August 18, 2012, 02:14:19 pm »

Hi there, Andrew (werdna) and I are thinking of running a one-off Legal Studies lecture during the term 3 holidays, covering the key aspects of the Units 3 and 4 course. The reason for this thread is similar to what Andrew has done with his English lessons: English Intensive Tutoring & Exam Prep - Interpreter/Growing Up Asian/L.Analysis. We've made this thread to see the number of people who would be keen on attending.

A bit about myself? I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Business (Accounting)/Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance) double degree at Monash University, graduating from Camberwell Grammar School in 2011. I privately tutor 4-5 on-going Legal Studies students. My ATARNotes tutoring ad can be found here. Their results have been of high standard, as none of them have gotten less than A+ for their SACs to date. I achieved a study score of 41 raw for Legal Studies, being equal rank 3 for SACs at my school. I achieved A+ overall (un-moderated) for both my Unit 3 and 4 SACs. My score isn't admittedly ideal, but I feel my teaching abilities and technique will compensate for that as reflected by my students' results. I have also mentored students previously at my high school; where I worked with students in the Bond University Mooting competition, in which they ended up representing Victoria in the national competition earlier this year.

The location for the lecture is not confirmed as of yet. It would either be at the same place as where Andrew is holding his English lessons or at a convenient location in the city. The lecture would go for 3-4 hours, as we won't be going through every detail in the course - more-so the main aspects/topics which get frequently asked in past exams/and where students have the most trouble in. We're taking the assumption that you understand the content, and what Andrew and I would be doing is clarifying and giving another perspective on how to tackle tricky/commonly-asked questions. We figure that there is no point covering the actual content in the course, because that can be done in your own time (or your teacher will cover) and it would be a waste of your money and our time.

Prices should be reasonable and it will be confirmed in the coming weeks if there is enough interest.

If you're at all interested in this, just post here saying 'YESSS PLEASE!' or something interesting like that. We hope to hear from you! If you have any further queries, feel free to post here in this thread or you can email me at [email protected]. Andrew’s details/credentials can be found in his other thread, or he will post in this thread. Further details will be posted here in the coming weeks for those interested. At this stage, we're just trying to gauge the number of people interested.

Cheers,

William

Just an update: Another member on ATARNotes is now a part of this lecture - Ian (Liuy), in addition to myself and Andrew. Ian achieved a study score of 50 raw for Legal Studies in 2011, and he was also the Legal Studies dux at Melbourne High School last year. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws double degree at Monash University and he also tutors Legal Studies. So if you're keen, register your interest here.

Nice work on the ad William! :)

Just quickly, my credentials: I achieved a raw study score of 43 in Legal Studies last year, and was rank 1 at Dandenong HS with A+ SACs. I have been tutoring 2-3 students for this subject over the past year. I am deeply passionate about the subject and I hope I can impart some knowledge and skills to you along with William and Ian. I am currently studying in the Bachelor of Property & Valuation at RMIT, where I am also completing an introductory law subject. I also satisfactorily completed the business law elective during my semester at Melbourne Uni in the Commerce degree.

Endorsed, all of Will, Andrew and Ian are clearly some of the nicest and most helpful guys around in the vce legal board.

Furthermore, their scores speak for themselves too. Get on it!

Just an update. We have found a place at RMIT University in the city, and we are holding the lecture over two days. The first day is on the 24/9 (a Monday), from 10 am to midday. The other day is yet to be confirmed. We're only taking 12 students in total for the two days, due to the size of the room. The idea is that we will go through exam-style questions with you from all the areas of study within the course. We will also be providing a practice exam during the two days. Prices are yet to be finalised. More details to come.

Yes. Just to add to what I said in my previous post: the lecture will be running over two days this month (24/9 & 26/9) from 10 AM to midday. It will be held at RMIT University in the city; Room 13 on Level 3 of Building 80. From the Swanston Street entrance, take the escalators up to Level 3 and the room is on the left. Our price is $60 for 4 hours. If you're interested in coming, attending both sessions would be beneficial as we can't cover the whole course in just two hours.

Bump. Unfortunately, Andrew had to pull out. Thus, Aneesh (burbs) is now a part of the lecture. Aneesh wrote the ATARNotes Legal Studies book and is currently studying BComm/LLB at Monash University.

Note, you can just turn up at the room/venue on the day of the lecture (Monday and Wednesday) if you'd like. Unit 3 will be covered on Monday and Unit 4 on the Wednesday. In addition, another user, cltf (Callum) will also be there on Monday to answer any of your questions. Callum is also studying BComm/LLB at Monash University and he achieved 41 raw for Legal Studies last year.

Location: RMIT University in the CBD. Room 13/Level 3/Building 80. 10 AM - Midday. 24/9 and 26/9. $60 for 4 hours.

For those coming on Monday/Wednesday, I have attached a map with the location of the building (the area with the blue square around it). Note, if you can only make one of the two days - that's perfectly fine (in which case it's only $30, not $60). Payment by cash on the day is preferred. Hope to see some of you there!
