hello again!

we did our prac for preparing aspirin and it was noted that the flask was very warm/hot when we were swirling the flask (contained salicylic acid and acetic anhydride as well as sulfuric acid).

Can someone please provide me an explanation please?

Thanks heaps in advance!

I'm assuming you used conc sulfuric acid? When conc sulfuric acid mixes with water, heat is released (dissolving of sulfuric acid releases heat, as the first ionisation fully occurs)

My friend thought that the prac he did today was just a practise prac but it was actually for a SAC so he spent the whole lesson pouring sulfuric acid on an ant.

haha! nice!

we had a cockroach and my friend was going to pour concentrated sulfuric acid onto it...but our teacher made us through it outside and so we spent like 2 minutes watching it do backstroke in a puddle...

we had pyjama day that day and it was raining...one hectic chem class xD
