Is further maths easy to get a solid 50 in?

Hi everyone! I'm currently in year 11 and want to achieve a high ATAR score next year. I so English, methods, chemistry, biology, Legal Studies unite 3&4 and literature. Initially or in theory, I am aiming to get a  98.00% atar score and in order to successful get this I need to be able to score high in many of my subjects. I NEED SOME ADVICE AND OPINION. Do you believe further-maths is easy? Can I score better in it than biology? Thank you xxx

How confident are you in maths? Even though Further Maths may seem easy.. the top end of scores (E.g 46-50) is very hard to get since there are a lot of people that share your theory that Further Maths is easy. You need to get like 100% in both exams to even think about a 50 since the competition is fierce and from what I've heard, one mistake on the exam essentially means one mark off your study score.

As for Biology.. I'll ask the same thing. How confident are you with Biology Units 1&2 now?

Just remember, if a subject seems easy... it doesn't mean you'll get a good score. Do something which  you're good at and also something that is one of your strengths/favourite subject :)

The content of Further Maths is in itself quite simple, but that amount of competition and pressure at the high end of the scores makes it no easier to get a 50 than other subjects. You pretty much need 100% over both the exams to secure it.

Couple of things (not trying to sound like a smart-ass, just pointing things out):
1) No 50 is an easy, although further maths is very easy content-wise, the competition is intense to grab that 50 and you pretty much need to make no errors
2) An ATAR is not a percentage, it's a ranking of sorts

Good luck :)

A lot of specialist students say to themselves "I'll just do further maths and get an easy 50". Unfortunately, too many people have that attitude and there aren't enough 50's to go around. All it takes is one small slip to mean the difference between a 50 and a 45 in further.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I understand that there is a lot of competition and that its not hard getting a 50. But I guess you can always think of it like, someone's gotta get the 50 and why can't that person be you? The thing is, I didn't do unit 1 biology and unit 2 is not going to be covered in year 12- same goes for further. I didn't do further-maths in year 11 at all! However my methods teacher suggested that I do both becasue she thinks I'll be able to get high in it. A perfect 50 is not necessary, Im happy with anything in the mid- to high 40's. Overall, what do you guys reckon, is further-maths easier to get a higher study score in in comparison to biology?

To put it in some kind of context, I know a few people who have scored between 48-50 in Further as a Year 12 study without scoring above 40 in any of their other subjects.

Depends on your respective mathematical ability/intelligence level though. There will be people who are capable of comprehending the Further coursework to the extent that they could get full marks on both exams, but not be able to cope with Spesh, just because it's at another level.

I agree! In specialist you learn a lot of new complex content that requires you to put in a lot of effort and requires individuals to be doing constant revision and study, if you are wanting to score high and get a good study score. With further-maths on the other hand, apparently its just an extention of the core maths that was covered in year 10, which doesn't seem too complex. Therefore the things you study in further are quite basic and familiar, thus, this means individuals can easily re-learn content that they have already covered in the past?

It's all good! Thank you for your input and opinion! I really appreciate it!!!!! It allows me to rethink my subjects that I have chosen to commence with, and helps me re-clarify why I am doing them!!! :)

A 50 is never easy, but i guess a 50 in Further is the one of the easiest.
The hardest obstacle on the way to a 50 in Further is not to die due to being bored.
