Printer for printing out exams

Sorry I don't really know where this post should be at. Anyways I'm looking for a printer to print out my exams (since the school doesn't offer free printing anymore). What is the most affordable and efficient printer for printing out exams.

-I'm planning to print at least 500-1000 pages, so efficient would be: fast and the cartridge/ toner will last 1000pages.

Have a look at Officework's prices, recycled paper for $0.03 per page?
They do seem to have deals for bulk printing, eh?

At my school, it's only 1 cent per page. It would definitely be worth checking out the price at your school before taking it elsewhere.

I don't think this is the reason. Many people have printers, yet print elsewhere because its more efficient in terms of ink/cost.

If I wanted to print 500 pages, no way would I use my little HP printer to do it. What, it'd probably go through three ink cartridges, there goes $60+, as opposed to some awesome price at Officeworks (Around $40 for 500 pages, standard A4?)

Well there are a few things that I would consider when purchasing a printer.

1) Definitely go for a Laser printer if you are looking to print bulk amounts - it works out to be far far cheaper because the toner cartilage lasts for ages and Laser printers are generally very robust, they are difficult to break and rarely malfunction.

2) What I would go for is a top of the line budget laser or bottom of the pile premium laser - what this means is that you'll generally find two classes - one that is for general home use and another for business use, generally you'd either want a good general one or an average business class one.

3) Consider the toner volume, look around and look at which printers print efficiently - look at how many pages per toner and how much is each toner - work out the cost per page and compare

4) Definitely consider automatic duplex (print on both sides) - it's so convenient!

5) I use a Brother 5340D and it works really well, I actually have two - one's mine and the other one is my dad's and they're both going strong and working well, both are over 2 years old!

Why do you even need to print exams?

Saying "I want to replicate the exam situation blah blah blah" honestly isn't a good enough excuse to contribute to the cutting down of trees for your vce subjects and phsyics (yes, the argument is generalised and flawed, but you get the point). Maybe do only the VCAA ones that like that, but printing 500+ pages for that reason is just stupid imo.

I didn't do that and my VCE went alright.

Or print smaller versions of them. Like fit two pages on one side A4. So it's more efficient.

For some subjects, like English, it would be stupid to print out the exam, but I reckon for maths and subjects where you work in the book, it's good to print out the exam, that's just my opinion, it's much easier to get used to how much you can write, what you should write and how you should set your working out.

Honestly though, just use recycled paper and green energy if you really care about the environment.

Yes. The book of methods practice exams we got last year had 4 exam pages per A4 page. Still perfectly legible.

Legible, but I would have preferred pdf form instead. It was hard to write working to a 4 mark question in a 4cmx4cm box :P

Fair enough. I'd never considered that before, I just use my home printer for everything. Don't think it's THAT bad though because I've printed 75+ practice exams for chem and methods and a whole lot of other stuff since I last replaced the ink cartridges and the black ones are still about half-full.

I guess it's also faster in a sense to not have to print a billion exams etc. etc. so you can have more time to do more questions etc. All you need is the pdf and a piece of paper and you're set to go. At the end of the day it's all about being good enough to do the questions, if you can't do questions because you must have them on paper in front of you then maybe you should practice more questions!

I would suggest personally that a combination is good, because if time is an issue you can merge both of the techniques to get the speed along with the 'exam conditions' which some prefer. Or maybe start with printing then move over to the pdf form if you're running out of time.
