Question about correct notation?

Suppose I have an equation
(-t^2 + 2)t +(t-10)e^(-t) = 0

What's the correct way of saying that I solved this
by CAS (ClassPad 330), is it just
"solve((-t^2 + 2)t +(t-10)e^(-t)=0,x)"
or something else? I heard calculator syntax isn't great.

thanks in advance :)

no marks for arithmetic, never write calculator syntax. just write:

(-t^2 + 2)t +(t-10)e^(-t) = 0    =>     t= answers

As a rule, never use calculator syntax.

Apart from that, use the number of marks as a guide for the amount of working you need. In my opinion, every mark deserves one major "deduction". So for example, if something was one mark, I wouldn't even bother to write anything, just the answer (because that's what you need).

If it's two marks, it would usually require a "set-up" (i.e. generating an equation) and then a solution (which can be done by CAS).

If it's three marks, then it would require two major steps then the answer.

You catch my drift, but remember that you can't go wrong with writing too much and it's always best to be clear and concise.
