Preparing for the English exam!

Hey everyone,

I started preparing for English a couple of weeks ago and I have found that writing sophisticated essays are extremely difficult within 1 hour lol and when I do finish an essay within an hour, it usually lacks quality and does not explore the content in depth. I am talking more specifically about section 1 and 2.
My SACs have been pretty decent in a strong cohort, but that's only because I have memorised all of my essays :P
I know there are people who have memorised essays throughout year 12 and still managed to pull of a 40+ score in english, and if you were one of these year 12s of previous years, how did you go about preparing for the exam?

or in general to all AN'ers, how is everyone going about preparing for the english exam?

Thanks! :)

Writing essays getting them marked by more than one person. (teacher + past student)
Getting a tutor for the last weeks before the exam.
Reading the herald sun every morning
I'm going to start writing 3 pieces in 3 hours in the second week of holidays.

Our school is subsidising a trial English exam for Friday. We pay $10 each ($5 paid), and we get 3 exams marked by external sources, with feedback and all. Very cheap, and hopefully they will do a good job.

Reading the herald sun every morning

I think reading that "newspaper" could actually lower your English capabilities.
Read the Age fo sho.
