Comm/Law VTAC application

Hey everyone,
I have my mind set on a commerce/law course at Monash. I think I might be able to get high enough to get in but I'm not really sure. Anyway I notice that roughly 20% of all law double degree courses are from non clearly in atar scores. I'm thinking of just applying for science/law and arts/law as in case I somehow sneak in. However if I get in would I be able to switch my non-law degree to commerce?
I wouldn't mind doing arts or science, they are on my list too. Anyone who has any information on this matter please reply. Thank you in advance :)

Yep, provided you meet the prerequisite vce subjects and study scores.

However, is there even much difference in the req. atar for comm/law and sci or arts/law? I would assume the atar is just the highest of the 2 degrees in the dbl degree (and law would have the highest atar requirement anyway).

No they are all about the same at around 98ish with arts being 98.15. I just figured it would increase my chances of slipping into law if I didn't get the clearly in. It would probably be better to do any law degree than a single commerce than transfer in which I heard it's rather competitive.

Thanks for your input :)

I'm pretty sure that you could always change courses as well if you're not happy with the d/d that you get after the first year, and just change one of the first degrees.

Monash has this program called Monash Access Scholars, if you applied with financial disadvantage like Centrelink on your SEAS, you will be able to get into any of the Law degrees with a 94+ ATAR rather than the usual 98+. BUT this is from last year, not sure if it's the same thing this year. :)

Having SEAs is a major advantage at almost every uni, biomed at melb (which was 99 this yr) only requires a SEAs applicant to achieve a 92. Commerce (96) requires 88. And environments (86) needed students to only achieve 76.

Hmm, I feel that they are being stricter on their admission policy on SEAS, still a large advantage but just somewhat more strict.

There is a Monash seas calculator, which is dependent on the individuals severity of disadvantage.

They bumped it up to 95 this year however, but still a pretty big advantage

I heard about it, sounds really good - only that. I'm not sure how to acquire SEAS through youth allowance though, although I'm pretty sure it's under financial disadvantages.
Thanks Werdna, that thing sounds awesome - hopefully it'll last for a few more years :) But it seems the link has expired  :-\

Sorry here you go - http://www.monash.edu.au/study/scholarships/merit-equity/access.html

You can definitely apply for financial disadvantage with Youth Allowance, just double check what kind of documents and photocopies you need to send in!

Oh and, to acquire this - does Monash simply contact you if you're eligible after they have looked at your SEAS?

Nope, you will get an offer in Round 1 offers if everything works out fine. :)

To be safe, just make sure your paperwork is all ready and perfect before sending.
