Hey everyone, im planning to put in what i would call a moderately significant seas application, and i was wondering if it could get you into courses where you don't meat the prerequisite study score's. i ask as Science at monash  is fairly high up my preference's, but i may not get the required 30 in English. does anyone know if this may be overlooked, or more of a deal breaker?

Got this from the VTAC site:
Quote
Courses with prerequisites
Consideration of SEAS circumstances may be given to performance slightly below the stated minimum study score for a prerequisite. Such consideration is determined by each institution in accordance with their selection policy. You cannot be exempted from having to complete the prerequisite study.

Specific questions about how SEAS is used in selection for specific courses should be directed to the institution.

Remember that applicants are selected in a competitive environment. Special consideration for SEAS  does not guarantee an offer

So, in short. If you completed English but didn't get the 30 but got close, you still have a chance.

Just to make sure, but if you're doing mainstream English (not ESL), the study score prereq is 25 for Science @ Monash.

VCE prerequisites
Units 3 and 4-one of biology, chemistry, mathematical methods (CAS), physics, geography, psychology or specialist mathematics, and a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.
http://www.vtac.edu.au/who/meeting-prerequisites.html#what this page here also clarifies it.

On your actual question:
Taking a link from Monash since that's what you've listed http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/admissions/special-admissions-scheme.html

This special consideration can only be applied if you meet the University's minimum entry requirements including those for age, English language requirements, and the specific prerequisites of courses for which you are applying.

oh im silly, i read it wrong, i took "at least 30 in English (ESL)" to mean standard English and English ESL. thank god then i should hopefully make 25 :)

Thanks guys, its good to know that even if i don't make 25 for some reason  i still have a shot :)

I'm not sure if on if you'd still have a shot if you don't make the 25. The quote that Lipton gave said "Such consideration is determined by each institution in accordance with their selection policy." and the one from the Monash website seems to imply that they don't.

Probably unlikely, but it could be dodgy wording on Monash's part. Monash's one could have been referring to the idea from the VTAC quote here "You cannot be exempted from having to complete the prerequisite study."

The way Monash has said it: "the specific prerequisites of courses for which you are applying." would imply that you need to meet the study score prerequisites too.

There's a phone number here about contacting the Admissions office of Monash, http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/admissions/contact.html, might be worth giving them a ring and see what they say.

SEAS doesn't help for prereqs, I have a mate who didn't make the 25 for methods and he had one of the highest categories of SEAS and it didn't help him for Monash.
