On the waterfront help please?!?!

Hey everyone! Hope you're coping well with these last few weeks

Anyway I have my last English sac tomorrow, on OTW,
I'm a little nervy because I can't remember films well
So the prompt from what i remember is 'what is the influence of Edie and Father Barry on Terry's redemption' or to what extent do they influence Terry's redemption

So I'm tring to plan how I would write it,
And it seems straight forward: a paragraph on Edie's influence, a paragraph on Father Barry..
I dont like these sort of questions because it is so close ended, and two is obviously not enough..

Would it be fitting (if the topic question is the latter) to include other factors (Charely's death...that influence Terry's transition?
What else would it be ok to write about??? In relation to this sort of topic question

Thanks in advance for your help!!!!!

You don't need to isolate the prompt into close-character studies. You need to talk about Father Barry and Edie, but you also need to address the following:
  • How did Terry confront redemption? Was he successful?
  • Are there other factors that influence his redemption?
  • Were Edie and Father Barry merely small influences in an on-going moral struggle? Or were they the main reasons that Terry found true redemption?
  • Did the longshoremen influence Terry to separate false values from true ones?
  • Was Terry's redemption fueled solely by anger over Charley's death? Or did he finally recognise immorality on the docks?

Great Thankyou!!!

That definitely makes sense...I wasn't taking in the overall question

I'll see how I go with my planning and maybe come back and ask more if need be

That's okay!
Try to understand every part of the question and break it down. If the prompt was:
Quote
To what extent do Edie and Father Barry influence Terry's redemption?

Think like this:
Quote
To what extent do Edie and Father Barry influence Terry's redemption?

Then explore it in sections:

To what extent: Are they the sole reason for his redemption? Are there other factors we need to consider?

Edie and Father Barry: What do they do to influence Terry? Are they sucessful? What persuasive attitudes do they take to persuade Terry?

Terry's Redemption: What is Terrys overall redemption? Was it always in his conscience, or did others create it?
