Study locations

Hi atarnotes.
Due to reasons, I'm unable to study at home anymore. During the week, I can get a teacher to leave a room unlocked but it's a bit of a pickle during the weekend.
What are some good study locations in the CBD area?
The state library is an obvious choice but I expect the locker hire would cost a pretty penny after a while. A friend has recommended City Library also.
Does anybody know with the RMIT Swanston library is open to non-RMIT students?
I really do prefer really quiet areas to study- though I usually bring a pair of earplugs.

Cheers!

When you go into state,
take your stuff out and walk in with your bag at a reasonable size, and carry your books in.
I take in like 20 books like that :)

All the JMSS study at Monash libraries because they don't have their own decent library or any other proper facilities (seriously JMSS kids are the worst, they act like they own the place...). Monash libraries have some very quiet areas which are great for studying :)

Perhaps look for a local library in a suburb that is just outside the CBD because it's bound to be quiet. :)

But..  :'(

Back onto topic, around this time it'll be pretty backed due to exams so I would suggest a library just outside the CBD (just like Stick said) since the State library will be packed and City Library will be as well.

I usually go to my local library (I live in the Mornington Peninsula), but the problem is that the opening hours are terrible! It is closed all Sunday and only open from 9am to 2pm on Saturdays.
I've never tried this, but I heard you can go to a fast food place like McDonald's and study all day there (since it is open 24/7). Just buy something cheap like an ice-cream cone so it doesn't look like you're freeloading :P

Lmao, they're not even that bad! Like they just use the library like anyone else, I just think when you're in uni, anybody in school uniform annoys you!

Umm, in all seriousness though Monash's opening hours aren't great on weekends either, only Matheson Library is really open at practical hours, I think Hargrave opens at something ridiculous like 1PM. But yeah, your best bet in the city would probably be the State Library, City Library or one of the libraries at the UoM, RMIT isn't too bad either.

Nah, I don't mind the others, it's just the JMSS with their huge school bags, bad manners, loud voices, battered maths quests, and tacky yr12 jackets. They're everywhere and they are taking up space that I'd rather have filled with air. Also, I heard a couple of them bagging a group of curries at Matheson at ~7pm last week because they were in the Arts library and then therefore Arts students; LOLJKS, they were years1-3 MBBS LOL. Anyone who makes such assumptions and then bags them for their assumed degree is just not cool.

Harsh, but needed to say it.

(also, don't get me started on their behaviour on the 601 bus)

My local library is literally more of a child care centre than a library- I swear parents just dump their kids there!
It's very, very noisy.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but which library is better to study in at Monash Uni? Hargraves or Mathesons?

Matheson imo, the upper floors are dead quiet.

At Hargrave, the second floor is filled with noisy science/eng curries (and Paul) :P + overly keen med kids, the ground floor has limited seating, and the basement is usually full.

Neither, Law Library would be the best one.

LOL! I don't even see how their huge school bags, battered maths quests and tacky year 12 jackets even annoys you, just saying, but I do agree, the last part is just not on, shouldn't be making assumptions about anybody, also shouldn't bag anyone because of their degree. You should have went up to them and had a chat to them, would have been hilarious.

State Library is probably the best option in the CBD.

Yeah....... sorry about that.

LOL you should make a rant about us in the Rants and Debate section, that would lead to some interesting discussion...
