Is anyone else feeling extremely shitty recently?
Like somehow whatever you do isn't good enough and isn't getting you anywhere.
And you're going to fail the exams either way because you're just too dumb to compare with everyone else
Just need to know that i'm not the only one because i seriously can't do this anymore.
In VCE or Academics in general, being smart will only get you so far.
You can be a super genius but at the end of the day, if you dont *do* anything, it matters shit all.
I'll share a little story with you. Without stroking my ego too much, I reckon im a decently smart guy, most people who know me would agree. One flaw i have that pops up from time to time is losing focus at what needs to be done and not caring about deadlines. Some people have a problem about being too stressed about academics, hell, i could be the opposite of that. Last year i had an assignment for Philosophy due in, those who know me will know i love philosophy, i even read it in my spare time. You'd think i'd jump right on that assignment, hey? Nope. I handed it in,
14 days late. That was the maximum before they would refuse to mark it. It's probably something i'd love to read about in my spare time (indeed, its one of my favourite philosophical problems now and even the title of my blog below) but when it came to being forced to do it, screw that. I got some insane mark like 98%,
before penalties. It was chopped down by the lateness by heaps.
Point of the story is, no matter how smart you are, if you dont do any work, it won't matter. Imagine you're at a job and your boss takes you up on not doing your work "No, its ok boss, i'm oh so smart". Where do you think that'll get you?
Imagine your friend asks you to assemble some swedish furniture. "Hey, kingpomba, can you build this bookcase for me?". 5 hours later, "Have you built it?" "No, it's ok, i'm smart"..."Whaa....". "It's not too hard just read the instructions and read the screw drivers" "Nah, its good, i'm smart".
You realise how
ridiculous that is right?
Working hard will get you much further in VCE regardless of intelligence (which is a totally fuzzy concept anyway).
More than most things in life, VCE is work in, results out. You mostly get out what you put in. All you need to do is put that effort in.
If not now, then when?
To borrow a quote from Winston Churchil, "
Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential".
